Poll question: Is the war on Iraq really over?
Is the withdrawal of combat troops really the end of combat in Iraq?

2. There never has been a 'war' in Iraq, there was an illegal invasion, and subsequent hostile
occupation, and that continues today despite all this talk of withdrawal.

4. Yes, because that is what the White House press release said
And I believe whatever comes out of the administration is the perfect truth because... well, just because.

6. We are still occupying Germany and Japan.
That should tell you something. The big difference is that a progressive Democratic government put the Marshall Plan to work in those places to rebuild those countries. I don't see us doing that in Iraq. It has become very clear from the reports coming from Rachel Maddow and Amy Goodman on Democracy Now! that the country is in shambles and that vultures are lurking in the wings to grab power for profit. The Iraqis are no better off than they were under Saddam.

Bush/Cheney and all their cohorts should be put on trial for this for war crimes.

10. They still don't even have electricity
I heard that a couple years ago and was blown away to hear it again this week.

Second largest oil fields in the world and the people who live there have no electricity. :wow:

11. Exactly. What we have done is truly despicable.

Also, a lack of clean water to drink in temperatures that are 130 degrees in the summer and no electricity for air conditioning.

12. Nice RW talking point there.
Yeah, those towel heads are just a bunch of murderers, all of them so they don't need anything from us, none of them including the women, children and the elderly.

14. Are the 50,000 combat troops really the Peace Corps?
Is the withdrawal of combat troops really the end of combat in Iraq?

Are the 50,000 combat troops still there not really combat troops?

Are they all an armed version of the Peace Corps?

Calling them murderers is just a topping on the "towel".

15. No
The war in the Middle East will never end. We really just need to pull all our people and resources out of the region. It's a waste of time, money and lives.

19. Very little has been mentioned about the largest US Embassy,
built courtesy of Bush, and how many US troops it will take forever to protect State Dept employees stationed there? If memory serves me it was something like 2500 (correct me if I'm wrong). Also, how many private mercenaries (funded by the US) have remained and what will their role be?

20. It recently was changed
The mission now, of the "contractors," is to be under the command of the state dept. I guess that is a change at least in name. I believe no one to date, except maybe the puppet in Baghdad (what's his name Maliki?)on a clear day, said that these private contractor have to leave as well. I don't think anyone listened to him. Is the cover for that leaving the contractors in place (at about 50,000 from what I've read) simply a cosmetic name change in the mission and command structure, yet Blackwater, et al continue in the same mode without skipping a beat?

Anyone read John Lescroat's book of a couple years ago, "Betrayal"? It was all about the corruption the contractors bring to the entire operation in Iraq and the amount of influence black ops still has over this allegedly US government mission. Book also touches on subjects of vets, their injuries and treatment, esp. TBI. It was a great read and from what returned vets tell me, it was very close to the bone as well.

robdogbucky sez check it out

24. Wars don't have an "on/off" switch.
They don't start and stop.

They gear up and wind down.
