1. That is a different issue.
That was part of George Bush trying to sell off all of America to the middle east money people.

It was not about religion, but about trying to defeat America, since America has things like better wages and still some unions. It was race to the bottom.

8. No it's not.
There were valid reasons for being against the Dubai deal, even if you disagreed with them.

The ONLY reason being given for opposing the community center is that it's "offensive" or "hurtful" with the subtext being "...because it's being built by a Muslim group." As if Muslims didn't die on 9.11. As if Muslims aren't offended or hurt by terrorists.

19. Except there were legitimate, non-racist reasons
for opposing the Dubai deal. Yes, there were also racist reasons but those were not the ONLY ones.

If you can think of a reason for not building the community center that doesn't include it being "insulting" or "hurtful" to the family of the 9.11 victims (the unsaid reason being that it's being built by a Muslim group), I'd love to hear it.

why it was a bad idea, other than bigoted ones.

11. for some I'm sure it was racism - but not for all
there are/were legitimate issues with foreign control of ports that have nothing to do with racism.
the mosque issue has no other possible context
*and who has the right to control ports isn't something that's enumerated in the bill of rights ...

so again - NOT the same issue.
(this isn't to say that there weren't some people motivated by racism re: the ports issue)

15. so what is that supposed to mean ? you think he is racist ? he is doing it for politics?
maybe he just believes what he does because it's how he feels. has nothing to do with politics or what others think.

18. my guess?
Howard's a pretty good guy but he's a politician ... meaning he's used to listening to what "the people" are saying and responding accordingly.
After being inundated re: the mosque story he was apparently won over to the idea that maybe even though they are legally allowed to build a mosque there that it wasn't a good idea - and that it was OK to voice his opinion on that.
.. and it *is OK to voice his opinion on that.
Just like it's OK to say you don't want "the blacks" in your neighbourhood... people might call you a racist prick but it *is your right to say that.

Somehow this issue has made otherwise decent people think it's A-OK to discriminate against a religion.
It's not.

20. Horse shit. I didn't want the ports under any foreign control
Being against the looting of the commons and giving over security of our ports to another country is not racism.

I'm disgusted by your trying to fly your free trade/privatization crap under a false flag of multi-culturisim.

22. The company they got the contracts from was foreign, P and O. But they were caucasian
owned, so no one really had said anything about them. It was only after non-caucasian foreigners were going to operate the ports that people cared about it.

27. I liked none of it. No Brits, no Dutch, no French, no Ethiopians, no Japanese
None of it. None of it none of it.

What the hell do you want a foreign country operating your nation's ports for? The notion is fucking absurd only a madcap privatizer has any interest in such an arrangement. I don't even want it in private hands so why would I think Dubai would be a good idea?

Your pushing your agenda, not any theory. You know good and well there are very distinct arguments and points of view. There may be some overlap but the brush you're painting with was too broad to even bring on accident.

You want to sell that opposition to privatization and globalization is racism despite not knowing who you are talking about. You just hope to ride the white guilt like Clinton did selling his gawdawful trade agreements.

You people are terrible.
