at that location.

Of course, the owners have every right to build what they want there.

I won't comment on the wisdom of Reid and Dean commenting on the wisdom of building it there. That could mean either I support them commenting on it, or I do not support them commenting on it. I do, of course, support their right to comment on it.

2. I'll comment
We have religious freedoms here, and frankly this is nothing short of discrimination. The Center's (it's not a mosque!) detractors mention that a Christian church would not be allowed in Muslim countries, but even if true, do we truly want to reduce our freedoms and model our nation after those we consider to not be as free? It makes no sense.

Funniest/saddest comment I've seen so far: "What's the big fuss? America has been putting ground zeroes next to their mosques for years now."

6. What we really need to hear are more comment on the
Repugs refusal to support healthcare for the 911 responders.
Obama has vowed to sign the 911 Responders Bill into law.

Regardless of our position on the community center issue, the
Bill is more important and getting buried by all the other noise.

9. I Have An Opinion that Will Offend Everybody!
I have an opinion that will offend everybody! I personally believe that Muslims DO have the right to build a cultural center @ 51 Park, and I hope they do. Siting a cultural center almost next-door to the site of a major atrocity is enough to make most people thoughtful.

Moreover, I welcome members of New York's Muslim communities stepping forward to become fellow-hostages to common misfortune. If al Qaeda (Or al Qaeda-descended organizations) dare to attack the Freedom Tower with a passenger jet or truck bomb, the cultural center will all too likely be impacted by a rain of debris falling from the Freedom Tower. If that wouldn't inspire many cultural center users to decide which side they'll be on, nothing will.

11. I am also refraining from further comment on the wisdom of the
Islam center.

Obama is being very careful to straddle this issue and others, it would be too bold to take one side or the other and is a hallmark so far of his presidency.
