Why doesn't Obama come out against extending the Bush taxcuts...
Edited on Thu Aug-19-10 10:46 AM by kentuck
And explain to the people exactly what the Bush taxcuts are and why they are now expiring?

Why let the Republicans make hay with this issue? This is a Democratic issue. They should not be running scared about "raising taxes". What cowards!

We will never get anything done with this Democratic Party in its present form. Period. End of statement.

1. His stated policy....
...repeatedly stated, between media nontroversies, is that the tax cuts should be continued for those making less than $250,000 and ended for those making $250,000.

Hasn't changed since the campaign in 2008

4. I hear some of his spokespeople say that....
from time to time, but the Republicans are non-stop in their opposition to letting these taxcuts expire and they are making political hay with their campaign. Obama needs to speak up. Tell them they are wasting their fucking breath. We are not going to run up the deficits another trillion dollars for their beloved taxcuts, which they voted to let expire. Not the Democrats, the Republicans. People are stupid. They need repetition. Otherwise, you have Democrats running scared in an election year, afraid they will be blamed for "raising taxes". Those chickenshits need to be replaced as much as any right-winger.

here.

And the day before in another state.

And another state.
And in another state the day before that.

But you heard a lot about a mosque, instead.

7. He should shout much louder and all Dems need to shout
it's not coming through. He should have public broadcasts before ball games and American Idol type shows. Then people might hear it. He could pop up in the middle of the ball game!

if only they had a voice today.

9. This is not unlike...
...with Health Care Reform. So much time was allowed to pass without a firm position from the President that the RW was able to frame the arguments. This is reflective of an administration that appears to be making up as they go.

14. I thought he'd already said he'd veto any attempt to extend them.
True, he could lobby Congress (particularly Blue Dogs) more; but I thought he had an expressed policy to oppose extension.

15. We don't need to "think"....we need to know.
It's not enough to simply guess what his position is.

I'd say that he is 'ok' with them. How many times can the Repubs be blamed, that bloody rag is getting stiff and crusty. Much of what people around here decry about the Administration has been done(or not done) by executive fiat. Things like health care were passed almost exclusively by Democrats. The Republicans are toothless and demented, they should be blown off with scorn, yet we are to believe they drive the agenda. Very convenient.
