Greta Van Susteren: Glenn Beck 'Should Move' Rally From Martin Luther King Spot
Greta Van Susteren says her Fox News colleague Glenn Beck should move his rally planned for the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on the anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech there.

Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally, which will include Sarah Palin, is described as a "non-political event" and an opportunity to "celebrate America by honoring our heroes, our heritage and our future."

Beck has been criticized by civil rights leaders for his choice of date and venue.

And now Van Susteren is joining the chorus of critics.

"Yes he has a First Amendment right to do it...but what about the wisdom of it?" she wrote on her blog. "Glenn should move his event. It does not help heal the country on so many fronts if we poke a stick in eyes."

Is she being real or is she playing on the mosque story?

6. Does the Lincoln Memorial belong exclusively to the civil rights movement?
Or does it belong to the American people as a whole, even including someone as odious as Beck? Similarly, does any day on the calendar belong exclusively to any particular group?

8. He claimed he didn't know it was the same day
Beck said he believes it was "divine providence" that the rally was scheduled on the anniversary of the King speech. He said he had initially planned the event for Sept. 12 and then realized it was a Sunday. "I'm not going to ask anyone to work on the Sabbath," he said. He rescheduled the rally for Aug. 28 because it was the best day for the schedules of the people involved, he said.

"It was not my intention to select 8-28 because of the Martin Luther King tie. It is the day he made that speech. I had no idea until I announced it and I walked offstage and my researchers said, New York Times has already just published that this is -- and I said, 'Oh, jeez.' "

He went on to say: "I believe in divine providence. I believe this is a reason , because whites don't own the Founding Fathers. Whites don't own Abraham Lincoln. Blacks don't own Martin Luther King. Humans, humans embrace their ideas or reject their ideas. Too many are rejecting the Founders' ideas. Too many have forgotten Abraham Lincoln's ideas and far too many have either gotten just lazy or they have purposely distorted Martin Luther King's ideas of judge a man by the content of his character. Lately, in the last 20 years, we've been told that character doesn't matter. Well, if character doesn't matter, then what was Martin Luther King asking people to judge people by?"

9. There is a clear parallel betwee Beck's rights, and the Mosque rights at the WYC
Same issue. They both have the right. But...

10. I would not go that far. I would say that Beck has a right to speak publicly
just as MLK did. I really hated saying that.

11. Yep she was comparing to mosque
In post today on her blog, Fox News host Greta Van Susteren compares the controversy over the planned Islamic community center in New York City to Glenn Beck's DC rally on August 28 (the anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech). Van Susteren writes, "Just because you have the right to do something does not mean you should. My view? No mosque at ground zero and Glenn should move his event. It does not help heal the country on so many fronts if we poke a stick in eyes." From her post:

On August 28th my colleague Glenn Beck is going to lead an event on the mall in Washington, DC. It is the anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech. The event is causing much controversy ...some support and some don't support and some are even furious and upset. Yes he has a First Amendment right to do it...but what about the wisdom of it? Remember...the Muslims in NYC have a First Amendment right to build a mosque but most Americans don't want it...and you have to ask the wisdom of the Muslims to push the issue. Just because you have the right to do something does not mean you should. My view? No mosque at ground zero and Glenn should move his event.

12. Fox is just trying to get us to bite.
If we accept this argument, they'll say that it's the same with the community center...

15. She's playing on the mosque story in the hopes that liberals will hop on
the train and not realize they're being played.

I think Beck's a complete nut but as long as he's not physically desecrating the memorial he's got the right to protest there whether we like it or not. Scum like Beck is the unfortunate byproduct of a democracy.

16. i would only ask this one question:
in 40 years, will anybody, anywhere, for any reason, be mentioning, quoting speech, honoring, let alone remembering, this gaggle of zealots (see John Doe) and their pathetic attempt to hijack a date less known for the exact date as the tremendous impact it had on American political and social culture?

good luck you hack motherfuckers...the choir you are preaching to was preached to my MLK and you are the only ones who didn't get the message...
