Proposed 28th Amendment: Mass e-mail from Local Freepers
I get these all the time. Living in Georgia, it's hard to escape the vociferous right. Normally, I simply delete. My blood pressure is high enough without having to digest their incessant drivel. This one, however, gave me pause, and I wanted to pass it along to my fellow DU'ers for hearty discussion:

"For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of
Congress. Many citizens had no idea that members of Congress could
retire with the same pay after only one term, that they specifically
exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed (such as
being exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment) while
ordinary citizens must live under those laws. The latest is to exempt
themselves from theHealthcare Reform that is being considered... in all
of its forms. Somehow, that doesn't seem logical. We do not have an
elite that is above the law. I truly don't care if they are Democrat,
Republican, Independent or whatever. The self-serving must stop.

If each person that receives this will forward it on to 20 people, in
three days, most people in The United States of America will have the
message. This is one proposal that really should be passed around.

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: "Congress
shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States
that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives;
and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or
Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the
United States ."

4. It's Lame. If my neighbor invites me to dinner do I have to report it?
A Senator should. But should I? No. It's lame.

5. Representatives have a different job than the rest of us
They are subject to different pressures and obligations

They should not be able to accept gifts that most of us would have no problem with.

They are restricted (or should be) in their investments and personal dealings to avoid conflicts of interest.

They should be immune from prosecution for anything said during the course of their duties

They should be in a position of public trust, and the standards to which they are subject should reflect this

6. As usual they never get the facts right.
The main point that is wrong is that House Members have to serve at least 6 years. Even then I don't believe they receive what they were paid when last in office. They have a formula that they use to determine the payout.

Dumbass Republicans.

7. Does this mean we all get the same health care they get?
Do the Freepers really want to go there?
