Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. among biggest contributors to Republican governors
August 17, 2010 at 8:47am

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. contributed $1 million to the Republican Governors Association in June.

Three-quarters of U.S. governorships are on the ballot this year, and Republicans are expected to gain several posts.

Unlike political parties and candidates for federal office, the governors associations can accept unlimited donations from corporations.

The RGA’s most recent report to the Internal Revenue Service shows that the organization collected more than $19 million in the second quarter of 2010. The report shows several big contributors. David Koch of Koch Industries contributed $1 million and Paul Singer, a partner at Elliott Management in New York, gave $500,000.

Companies giving $100,000 or more included Wellpoint, Contran, Exxon Mobil and General Electric. The Service Employees International Union also contributed $100,000.
