When in doubt, stand by the Constitution.
If you must lose, it is better to lose with the Constitution by your side.

Thee President is getting a lot of criticism at the moment for his comments about our 1st Amendment and the right to freedom of religion and the "building" of a "mosque" at "ground zero".

First of all, they are not "building" anything. The building is already there. It is the former Burlington Coat Factory building. Do they not have a right to purchase the building? What other part of the Constitution are we also ignoring? The right to property??

Also, it has been reported that there are already two mosques already in the same area. Politicians see political opportunism and political pitfalls. The President should stand behind the Constitution and let the politicians on both sides do what they must do to win the next election.

The President is up on a tightrope. He must be sensitive to the feelings of the survivors of 9/11 but must also stand by the rights guaranteed by our Constitution. This is a critical test of his Presidency and what he stands for as a leader.

The President should stand by the Constitution and let the politicians stand where they feel they must. Naturally, the Republicans will take advantage of what they see as a political opportunity. Naturally, the Democrats will run in a hundred different directions at the drop of a pin. They are frightened to death of losing their "careers".

Behind the scenes, many Democrats want the President to have "no comment" on this subject. Instead of "no comment", the President, a constitutional scholar, should speak to the nation about this subject. This is a teachable moment. There is never a bad time to teach the nation about our Constitution.
