The USFS biologists think this might be a roughed legged hawk.

4. My dear DemoTex!
These are very nice! Thank you for sharing the beauty, which is considerable, in your world...

I especially like the hawk. That first shot says "I know you're looking at me..."

I love the wing detail too...

Keep 'em coming!

:hi:

5. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
If you have the time, get over to the Scott Lake Campground in the Sisters area, and do the day hike up to the several Tenas Lakes. Main Parking Lot for walk-in campers and hikers. I think the trail is mareked as "Benson Lakes Trail," a further destination. And if you can, spend a night or 50 camping there and watching the sun rise and set against the views of the 3 sisters. The photo links are now all broken, but the experience of time there is written at this link: http://demopedia.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=280x7748

12. Yup...
there's actually 3 pics of the redwings dive-bombing the hawk. One with the redwing standing on the hawk.

And more.... redwings got big balls!

Another one...

14. The nest could be a loooooong distance away....
I think they are just the terriers of the air. They think they own it all... and size be damned!

11. BREATHTAKING..and I hope that the lull in fires remains thru to the end of the season.
I saw, and loved that movie, "The Ranger, the Cook, and the Hole in the Sky".

I loved Sam Elliot in that..but I love him in everything he does...and Jerry O'Connell was adorable.

GREAT story..If anyone missed it..try Netflix.

A young ranger in the Montana wilderness discovers the great forces of nature while learning the importance of honor, trust and integrity. Legendary veteran ranger Bill Bell educates the young man and guides him toward manhood. The year is 1919-a time when being a ranger meant more than operating expensive equipment. Forest fires were fought with guts and courage, not chemicals and airplanes. Bill Bell was the toughest ranger in an elite crew of very rugged men. A figure of heroic proportions, he was generally feared and respected by all. It was even rumored that he had at one time killed a sheep farmer, which only fueled his already enormous reputation. The young ranger does everything to remain in the good graces of Bill Bell, the senior ranger he idolizes. Their tentative rapport grows into a friendship through a hilarious and heroic rite of passage in which the younger ranger meets the test-and the woman of his dreams.
