Fair And Balanced Fox News Gives GOP A Million Dollars
Fair And Balanced Fox News Gives GOP A Million Dollars

A report from Business Week reveals that Rupert Murdoch is keen on electing Republican governors. His News Corp donated a million dollars to the Republican Governors Association in June.
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-08-16/republicans-see-gains-in-governors-races-as-funding-hits-peak.html

This is a significant contribution to a partisan electoral committee. There are 37 governorships on the ballot this year. Democrats currently hold a majority of state houses, Republicans hope reverse that. And since this is census year, the control of state governments can have a huge impact on the make up of Congress for the next decade by managing the redistricting process.

It should come as no surprise to political observers that partisans on both sides are lining up to support the party they regard as most sympathetic to their views. Unions will back Democrats. Wall Street and Oil companies will back Republicans. But what makes this unique is that the media are supposed to be unaffiliated politically. How can they produce unbiased coverage of electoral issues while they are spending millions to benefit one side. Can we really expect them to be critical of the GOP when they are bankrolling their campaigns?

9. There is the little problem called the First Amendment ...
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Now I agree that Fox News is far from fair and balanced and that their opinion segments are blatantly unfair. However, if Fox News is "shut down" it opens the opportunity for a Republican administration to do the same to a more liberal news organization.

I was a news buff during the Nixon administration.

Nixon: 'The Press is the Enemy...'

Our favorite snippet from the latest round of newly-released Nixon tapes is one that is completely anachronistic now that such school of thought by Republicans has been thoroughly discredited in the wake of Nixon's disgrace. This quote from Nixon to Kissinger, from an Oval Office recording from December 14, 1972, has no relevance whatsoever to the current occupant of the White House...

NIXON: Remember, we're gonna be around to outlive our enemies. And also never forget: The press is the enemy. The press is the enemy. The press is the enemy. The establishment is the enemy. The professors are the enemy. Professors are the enemy. Write that on a blackboard 100 times and never forget it.

Our free press did us a major favor during the Nixon administration, but had Nixon had the power he would have definitely shut down the liberal press.

Beware of you ask for, you might just get it.

Good luck with that.

I hate them too, but that doesn't justify abridging the Constitution.

13. I wonder what Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal thinks of this?
He owns 7% of News Corp (Fox News).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Waleed_bin_Talal

Does he agree with his money being spent on a party that wants to exterminate his religion?

Or is this one of those "Log Cabin Republican" things that make NO SENSE whatsoever?

19. Would This Be Considered A Foreign Donation???
Since the money behind Murdoch is from the Saudi Royal family would that money be considered from an "alien"?

I've been having fun with fauxheads telling them their "all amurican" channel is funded by "A-rabs"...then show them and make their heads explode. More should be doing the same.

retain facts that they don't agree or want to agree with. I tell some of the same people every few months, and their reply is: Really? just like they are hearing for the first time.

22. Amazing Isn't It...
A perfect case where denial ain't just a river. So many of these wingnuts have spent their lives being told what to think they not only are unable to do it for themselves but question those who have led them off the political abyss.

Cheers...

26. the media needs to be wrested from so much corprat ownership
broken up, regulated (ethics, truth-in-reporting laws), the Fairness Doctrine reinstated. And this notion of corprats as people certainly needs to be overturned.

I won't hold my breath.
