Rosie to baba Wawa:" You stopped liking Bush when you couldn't cross 5th Avenue

to get to your house"
The context of the line makes it even better: the View women were discussing The Sopranos - where Toni - the head of the crime family just killed his nephew.
Amazingly, Barbara said: "You know, I loved Toni until now - but this is going too far! His own nephew! And with a new baby"
So then Rosie said that killer line, adding: "That's you, Barbara - you set a line and no one should cross it"
To me, it's now stands for the callous pampered media types who don't react until it gets through their ivory tower - to THEIR precious selves.
in case you missed it, Toni Soprano has been doing mayhem for years (in the series), and the 'poor" nephew was a fellow mobster - a vicious one at that.

1. she loved Tony?
I really found him and the show quite disturbing.
I quit after season five. I won't watch any more.

3. She liked Bush????
Edited on Tue May-15-07 12:25 PM by The Count
I thought The Sopranos has been good - uneven - but good yet again. Precisely because, to me, it does deal with the ethical consequences of crime (doing it, being married to it, benefiting from it) Obviously that part was lost on Baba Wawa just like Bush's crimes pre-blocking 5th Avenue.

4. She cannot be a regular viewer of the show
Tony has his personal demons, to be sure, but he has in no way, shape, or form ever been painted as a sympathetic figure.

The look in his eyes when he "mercy" killed Christopher the other night should clue her in.

5. She can too. In the first season I went on HBO's board for the show
Edited on Tue May-15-07 02:50 PM by The Count
To my surprise, there were a gaggle of women swooning over Tony. Not the actor, mind you, the character. I remember posting that my favorite character was Livia - I was almost tarred and feathered.
There's a certain type of women who gravitate towards power. Baba Wawa is one of them.

6. Dammit! SPOILER WARNING.
You can't just go around revealing stuff about the Sopranos like that without a warning. Some of us live in "foreign" countries, and don't get to see the first run on HBO.

of those in power now.

The mass corporate media coming out with a series glamorizing organized crime, while the current mob is in control could just be cosmic coincidence, but it's close enough, to keep me from watching.

Just like how The West Wing--about an altruistic Democratic president--was at its peak during the Clinton years.

15. Tony killed someone in the first season
In cold blood with his bare hands. It was disturbing and yet I kept watching specifically because it was a fearless examination of this type of sociopathy. He is a sympathetic character that you forget that he also killed his best friend and closest cousin before this. When he killed Christopher I was still shocked and didn't even understand why at first. Then I had the sense to realize that I excused all of the other killings and kept liking him so I would be a hypocrite to stop now.

Obviously I am not for mob justice but he killed Christopher out of convenience because he had a drug addiction and a big mouth and could ruin Tony. Not only that but Tony was enraged that Chris drove him while high and risked his life due to his addiction. If you watch it again it's clear that Tony suspects that he was high before the accident. What put him over and what he used to deal with his guilt was the thought that he was doing a service for the greater good so Chris didn't end up hurting his family directly. To spend almost 10 years watching the Sopranos NOW Walters thinks Tony went too far? He held his nemesis' decapitated head once but now it's too far? Puhleeze.

19. About a month ago, I think...
Edited on Wed May-16-07 10:17 PM by libnnc
whenever the last time Chimpy McCokespoon visited NYC--traffic along 5th Ave (including pedestrian traffic) was closed off. Barbara was trying to walk home and couldn't get across the street for the security barricades. She was pretty steamed because of it and mentioned it on The View. That's what Rosie was referring to.

and the only reason she gets her clams steamed is over not being able to cross 5th Ave. :eyes:
