Fox host 'astounded' that more Americans support letting some tax cuts expire

Even Fox News' own poll says plurality of Americans want some Bush tax cuts to expire and one host just can't believe it.

50 percent of Americans favor letting taxes increase on at least the richest Americans, according to a Fox News and Opinion Dynamics survey taken July 27-28. 44 percent want to keep the lower tax rates for everyone.

Of the Americans that favored raising taxes on some Americans, 36 percent want to keep the tax cuts for people making less than $250,000 while 14 percent want to let all the Bush tax cuts expire.

"I'm astounded that a plurality there, 50 percent, said they should go up on some level," said Fox News host Alisyn Camerota Monday.

"Asking people if they like tax cuts is asking if they like chocolate ice cream. Everybody likes tax cuts yet 50 percent there -- if you added the bottom two categories together -- think there should be some tax hike of some kind," she explained.

Fox News host Steve Doocy took the opportunity to speak for Americans. "Because ultimately we would like to keep our own money because ultimately we don't trust Washington to spend it effectively," he said.

"Indeed," Camerota agreed. "That was your campaign speech. Nice."

1. Clearly the American people are smarter than your average Fucks Gnus talking head...
Doocy is half right... we do want to keep our own money... and we want to stop forking it over because the top 2% aren't paying their fair share.

I'm not sure where these asshats think the money comes from to keep highways and parks and the government they scream to for help working. I guess it's all magic.

ask if you were president and implies that if the question didn't ask if you were president then you wouldn't have answered that way. Way to spin it moran.

7. I thought it was ultimately about the top 2% threatening to stifle job creation if their taxes go up
Now Doocy says it's all about "keeping our own money"?

Is it economic blackmail, or isn't it?

If it isn't, then shut the hell up and just take your damn tax hike. Sacrifice some pocket change for the common good just once in your pathetic life.

8. What amazes me the most is how a person earning $50 K per year
would fight for a tax cut for a person earning $250 K per year. Do they actually think the rich person is going to do something for them in return?

14. When you talk to them they actually think that rich guys provide most of the jobs.
One of their favorite talking points is, "Have you ever gotten a job from a poor person?"

(I always answer, I've never gotten a job from a rich person, only middle class people.)

19. It's a sort of magical thinking
They think that if they support and identify with the rich, they will become rich via the principle of sympathetic magic. Many people fall prey to this fallacy. The rich have armies of propagandists to help them along.

23. Because they have bought into the greatest lie ever told, the 'American Dream', that one day THEY...
Edited on Tue Aug-03-10 09:45 AM by truebrit71
...will be making $250k a year and then they will want that tax cut to be in place..

It is of course complete bullshit, but that's what makes it such sport for the ruling class watching the plebs flogging themselves to death for something they will never attain..

9. That's because Redneck Bubby just figured out that he never got a tax cut...
when his pals in DC crowed about them getting to keep their own money. He then decided that his boss, Boss Hogg, new better how to handle his money since he was rich and would let it trickle on down to him.

18. It isn't just Fox...
.. I was out in the sticks with only local tv to watch this weekend. Sat morning there was one of those News Shows on ABC. This moron reporter comes on, I've heard his name before but cannot remember it, with this bullshit heavily biased "story" about how the tax cut expiration will hurt the economy real real bad.

Guess what morons, we need some tax revenues. Rich people have the money, they stole it from us. They can damn well pay.

21. I'm sort of astounded by the 44% in favor of tax cuts for the rich
I'm not surprised that the percentage may have started high based on party affiliation, but I was perhaps naive in thinking that more would have changed their view during a recession caused by Wall Street that still benefits the rich even without the tax cuts.

There may be different flavors of ignorance in play. On the one hand, there are those who by the old party line that helping the rich really works, and others who can't or won't see that what's being proposed is only a tax hike for the rich. They think the words "tax cut" or "tax increase" refers to them.

I'm not really astounded by "teh stupid", just at its tenacity.

How fucking stupid were her parents? Unless you are a pornstar/stripper the way that is supposed to be spelled is 'Allison'...

Sorry, but that is just one of my pet peeves...I shall crawl back under my rock now..

25. Yeah, those rich people just aren't getting enough - we should sacrifice more
so they don't have to pay to support us.

I wonder how many who say this stuff at Fox actually are stupid enough to believe it...or rich enough.
