1. Of course. However, a bear that choses to eat people rather than fish, baby elk, berries,

will, unfortunately, be tracked down and killed as it will continue to do so.

Anyone who keeps a dirty camp, or feeds wild animals because they are so "cute" or whatever the hell the reason, they contribute to the problem.

It is very sad.

Edited to ask, do you swat mosquitoes? Why? They were here first and it is their natural home.

<1 to you too:rofl:

Seriously though.. Bears have had their territory encroahed on for EVER, and many times water shortages in dammed up rivers (or polluted) ones make water scarce too..

They do best when we "know" they are there, and don't feel the need to go "visit" them in THEIR habitat.

It's a rare bear that tracks down a human in his home & attacks him in his bedroom:(

I also think "sport" hunting of bears is very very very wrong.

5. Do you ever camp out? Have you ever? Do you swat mosquitoes?
Living in the woods, I am aware of the hazards. Living in town, I am aware of the hazards there also.

However, I kill mosquitoes and though it makes me sad (more sad than the mosquito) a bear that eats someone can be killed.

You should hear me get on "sport" bear hunters. Bah to them indeed. There is no need to kill a bear for its skin and anyone who does does the world a severe disservice.

6. As a kid, we did camp out..with shitty little smelly canvas tents
As a grown-up ,I am not at all interested in camping in anything more primitive than a Hilton.

When my boys were young, I told them & their Dad that anytime they felt the need to camp, they could drop me off at a hotel & pick me up on the way home:)

We preferred nice beachfront hotels in Baja for vacations with the kids:)

7. As a kid, we had too many kids to stay in motels, camped on vacations
As an adult, I appreciate a hotel, but do love camping and sleeping out. It always amazes me that people haven't camped as it was such a part of our growing up. I have given up backpacking as I like my 3 inch trifold camping pad, but being out in nature, or even camping by a field smells so good and I sleep so well.

Too many people live their lives separated from the earth, 'tis nice to reconnect with it.

8. I spent too many of my young years IN a jungle (Panama), so I guess I OD-ed on nature
Edited on Fri Jul-30-10 05:59 PM by SoCalDem
as a kid & in my dotage, I appreciate the finer things now..like AC & flush toilets & restaurants with people waiting on me,.,

My girl scout troupe went through the jungle training school in Panama..had to eat a rhinoceros beetle to "graduate"..:puke:

my father's idea of "camping" was to "live off the land"... breakfast?..whatever we caught in the stream...water? the same stream... gotta go to the bathroom? here's a shovel..

not fun at all:(
