Charlie Crist has slight edge in U.S. Senate race
<snip>

"After leaving the Republican Party before the U.S. Senate primary, Gov. Charlie Crist's strategy of veering to the political left has given him the edge in the general election, a new poll shows.

Crist garners just under 40 percent of the vote in the Senate race, while former Republican House Speaker Marco Rubio trails by only 6 percentage points, a spread that's just within the error margin of the Quinnipiac University poll of Florida voters released Friday.

The Democratic Senate contenders, Jeff Greene and Kendrick Meek, are far behind, respectively earning 17 and 13 percent of the vote."

<snip>

"Crist, who has stripped references to his conservative positions from his campaign website, has remained the front-runner by receiving half the vote of independents, a fifth of the Republican vote and a whopping 40 percent of the Democratic vote, the poll shows."

2. Meek may not even get the dem nomination with Greene outspending him
The problem with Meek is for months he ran too much of a stealth campaign and made little news. Now he is just beginning to advertise, but he has an opponent who can spend him out of the water. Meek is the best of the democrats and I just hope he wins the primary.

5. Depends on which dem wins. If Mr. Moneybags wins I'll bet a lot of
dems will go for Crist (who I think is to the left of Lieberman).

I've a feeling we will regret electing Charlie Crist, if push comes to shove.

Hope I'm wrong.

I do not support Crist.
I do not agree with the decision to support Crist (republican opportunist turned independent opportunist) here at Democratic Undergound.
I think that if Democrats in Florida panic and vote for Crist because they are afraid that Tea Party Rubio will win it will be a big mistake.
I think that Crist will be shown to make Lieberman look like Kucinich.

I may be wrong. I hope so. I doubt it.

My tagline, "Be the Party of NO GOP" includes former Repblicans like Crist.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A new poll shows Florida Gov. Charlie Crist leading the U.S. Senate race.

A Quinnipiac University poll of registered voters released Friday shows Crist and Republican Marco Rubio ahead of both Democratic candidates. Crist is running as an independent after bolting the GOP in April.

If billionaire businessman Jeff Greene gets the Democratic nomination, the poll shows Crist with 37 percent, Rubio 32 percent and Greene 17 percent. If U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek is the Democratic nominee, Crist receives 39 percent, Rubio 33 percent and Meek 13 percent.

The poll shows a tight race for governor between Democrat Alex Sink and either Republican candidate, Bill McCollum or Rick Scott.

The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.

but if Meek wins then it might be close between Crist and Rubio.. but I think Crist still wins it in the end.

You've heard of him, haven't you?

H's the DEMOCRAT in that race.

Charlie Crist is the LIFELONG REPUBICAN in the race who bolted cuz his party went from "Extreme Right" to "Off the Chart Right" and he couldn't keep up.

28. "64 percent say they don't know enough about Greene or Meek."
This is why any poll taken right now is meaningless. That number will change before election day. Democrats who don't follow politics closely will go into the booth and vote for the person with a "D" next to their name.

There is a serious lack of enthusiam among many Democrats. Maybe that will change by election day but at the moment there is huge number who probably wont vote.

Florida's election day becomes election month as absentee voting surges
By Cristina Silva, Times Staff Writer

Legions of pajama-clad voters could decide Florida's ballot long before the August primary.

Elections officials began mailing out hundreds of thousands of vote-by-mail ballots this week, creating an unprecedented army of absentee voters in an unpredictable election year rattled by vulnerable incumbents, a desolate economy and the sudden emergence of two wealthy political upstarts.

With the ballots poised to arrive weeks before a slate of scheduled debates or other opportunities for voters to learn about the candidates, the emergence of the home as the polling place of choice for so many voters lends further uncertainty to a year already testing many of Florida's political traditions.

35. Rubio's going to steal it; it's Kinky Friedman redux
When the Republicans are scared that the Dems have a chance of winning a governorship in a swing state, they get a third party run to mix things up and confuse the middle enough that we end up with a rightwinger in office.
