prop 19 "possible downward bias in the human operator polls"

New California Poll Has Prop 19 at 52%

A majority of California voters support Proposition 19, the state's Tax and Regulate Cannabis marijuana legalization initiative, according to a poll released Tuesday by Public Policy Polling. The poll has support at 52%, with 36% opposed and 12% undecided.

ballot measure would legalize the possession of up to an ounce of marijuana by those 21 or older, as well as allowing any adult to grow up to 25 square feet of it. It would also give counties and municipalities the local option to approve the regulated cultivation, sale, and taxation of marijuana.

The poll was an automated phone sampling of 641 people who voted in the last election.

As Nate Silver of the polling analysis web site 538.com has noted, this is the sixth California legalization poll released in recent months. Automated call polls like this one have consistently shown Prop 19 winning, while human operator polls have shown in losing narrowly. Silver suggests that people are less likely to take a possibly controversial position (such as legalizing marijuana) with a human operator, thus introducing a possible downward bias in the human operator polls.

i would also like to mention that the fears of mj use going up, (a meme constantly repeated by the oppostion) would be due to the fact that you will stop
holding a gun to thier head over mj use.
use a brutal amount of force against fellow american citizens, and then complain that theyll begin to behave in a free and normal manner when such force is removed.
of course use will go up and rightly so!
said poll bias just shows one aspect of the fear that nazi pigz rely on to maintain thier power of arrest (and life destruction)

1.7 BILLION Dollar Pot Bust In Central California

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/29/17-billion-dollar-pot-bus_n_664108.html

FRESNO, Calif. — Nearly 100 people have been arrested in an ongoing sweep of marijuana-growing operations that has netted more than $1.7 billion worth of pot in California's Sierra Nevada range, federal and state agents said Thursday.

Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said several Mexican drug cartels were involved in the grow operations and that most of the 97 people arrested are Mexican nationals. Agents were combing tracts of public land in the remote stretches of Fresno, Madera and Tulare counties.

"Tremendous devastation has been done and continues to be done by these industrial-sized grows," said Gil Kerlikowske, who directs the White House's Office of National Drug Control Policy and was in Fresno on Thursday to support the raid. "I think when people see what these marijuana grows do to their land, it makes a huge difference."

Eastern District of California U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner said federal prosecutors were taking a more aggressive enforcement tack this year and charging those arrested in the bust with everything from criminal immigration offenses to conspiracy to distribute marijuana to depredation to public lands.
