Bloomberg's Lies Must Now Be Settled on the Backs of Children (NYC ed deform = phoney test scores)
Edited on Fri Jul-30-10 06:39 AM by Hannah Bell
In 2006 the New York State Department of Education, in collaboration with Bloomberg's edu-goons in the City, decided amongst themselves to make it easier for New York children to pass the state test. While this news was kept from the public, what did get publicized was Prince Mike's sudden decision the same year to end "social promotion." The following year in 2007 New York City (and state) test scores soared, and, of course, the No Excuses CEO schoolmen had another piece of "evidence" to support the charter/privatization agenda...

Scores continued to soar through 2009, when Bloomberg squeaked out a re-anointment from the voters and the State as Prince of Schools for another term....

So now that Bloomberg's rule has been assured for years to come, it is time for the chickens to come home to roost, as they must, in preparation for the test score evaluation scheme that is being developed to kill off the teaching profession in Gotham and throughout the State (RTTT, anyone?). After all, the need for the last charade is over, even as a new charade is about to begin.

Meanwhile, will anyone hold the Mayor accountable for the fact that at PS 179 in the Bronx the percentage of 3rd graders proficient in Math went from 91% to 21% in one year? Will anyone be accountable for the hundreds of thousands of children's educational plans that were devised with nothing but phony data...?

Next to be debunked: phony claims about raising graduation rates.

NYC went from 69 percent of students passing exam last year to 42 percent of students passing this year – a 27 point - or 39% - decline. Statewide drop: 77.4% down to 53.2% -- a 24 point drop and a 31% decline.

Charter school dropped from 76.1 to 43%; a 33 point drop and a 43% decline.

The gap between black and white students’ test scores is as wide as it was in 2002. (Daily News)

And because scores were inflated, there’s no way to know whether students are doing better. (Times)

Tenure denials are on the rise, slightly. (GothamSchools, Times, Post, WSJ, NY1)

The tenure and evaluation decisions were made with help from faulty test scores. (Daily News)

Thousands of students were promoted or retained on the basis of the scores. (GothamSchools)

Juan Gonzalez says misled students lose biggest in the test score recalibration. (Daily News)

The Daily News says it stands by its praise for city students, despite the lowered scores.

School deform = one massive, expensive, absolute fraud on the citizenry.

Yet it still rolls on.

4. K&R'd--V. Impt.; & the destruction of public school systems is happening FAST!
And completely below the radar. The issues are complex, and the media is totally ignoring or whitewashing the situation.

6. Hard to see how no laws were broken and no impeachable offenses were committed.

And what about CIVIL liability? People made important decisions regarding their kids' education ( leave him in PS, take him out, move to a better district, DON'T move, private tutoring, NO private tutoring) on the strength of these scores.

Bloomberg and Klein are not stupid. They are a lot of things.... but not stupid. They knew the tests were dumbed down and were complicit in the deception.

I gotta think a lot of people are going to be calling their lawyers for referrals in the next few weeks.
