Lieberman to host fundraiser for Republicans
Lieberman Helps Collect Cash for Collins

Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) is never going to win any popularity contests among his party's liberal base -- a fact he seems decidedly unconcerned about despite his 2006 Democratic primary loss to Ned Lamont.

Not only has Lieberman endorsed Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine.) -- one of Democrats' biggest targets in the 2008 cycle -- but he's planning to co-host a fundraiser for her on June 21 in Washington, D.C.

The event, which will be held in a Capitol Hill location still to be determined, will feature Lieberman and Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) -- a very rare bipartisan fundraiser. Attendees are being asked to raise $3,000; $2,000 would come in the form of a political action committee donation while the other $1,000 would be a personal contribution, according to an electronic invite for the fundraiser obtained today by The Fix.

"Let's try to make this a bi-partisan tour de force," reads the invite.

Note to the Washington Post: Lieberman is NOT a Democrat. If you tell us a bill or a candidate has bipartisan support every time he backs the Republicans then you must also tell us a bill has bipartisan support every time we get the support of Bernie Sanders. If you are going to count the support of independents as bipartisanship then be consistent with it.

Lieberman is not one of us.

13. Now, I do have to say that of all the GOP senators, Collins and Snow are the most reasonable, but
damn...Lieberman really is rubbing in the noses of the Democratic Party of Connecticut, isn't he?

I suppose he's making his final rounds--he's gotta realize that this is IT for him. I think a lot of people who were conned by his mild words now realize full well what a loose and hubris-laden cannon he is. I just hope that we have such a decisive majority in the Senate by 08 that we can tell him to go fuck himself, HEARTILY, and to PLEASE leave our caucus and hang out with the GOP, because we don't want his traitorous ass 'round here no more.

21. Strange how all the Lieberman supporters here just...vanished.
I remember many DUers advocating for his re-election, even after Lamont became the Democratic nominee. This was against the rules, but these clowns got a free pass from the mods - their pro-Lieberman posts weren't so much as deleted.

Now I can't find a single one of them here. It seems like they were here for one single purpose and then disappeared right after he got re-elected.

I wonder what that purpose was?

22. i'm glad you brought that up
I remember all the talk on how we "needed" jomentum for the majority, and how we couldn't afford to alienate him, and how the race was a "win-win" either way...I also remember the talk about Lamont being too 'fringe' and how happy some were that Joey usurped the whole idea of a primary...

the defenders disappeared right about the time in Jan. when Joe was publicly toying with the idea of switching parties

24. They didn't say much about other Democrats, either.
And their debate tactics had a familiar ring to them - anyone taking issue with Joe hedging his bets, betraying his constituents and jumping parties was accused of "hating" him, even those who personally knew him.

Since I worked for Lieberman before I was even old enough to vote, only to be betrayed by his desire to jump ship and put himself above his party and his constituents, that tactic didn't work very well with me.

27. The Kiss Of Death!!!

One would hope some Connecticutt Democrats are now having Joementum remorse...and that his popularity in Maine is as strong as it is ehre in the Midwest...ZERO. If anything he's gonna be a liability. Democrats know Liebermann isn't one of them...only the corporate media plays this charade. Moderate Repugnicans know this as well.

Snowe looks like she's trying a highwire act here. She's been grunting that she's gonna start voting against Iraq (still hasn't done it) and gonna confront this regime, but her voting record, like those of Gordon Smith, Normie Coleman and other so-called "moderates" say different. Here's hoping they don't have to run against a Democrat as much as run away from their own hypocirtical past.

Liebermann is irrelevant now. Hagel negates his vote regarding Iraq (as I predicted it would) and his real power is diminished. The payback is coming for Joe in '08 when more Democrats are elected to the Senate and he's forced to shit or get off the pot...with less power and a faustian deal that will stick to him like glue. While Joe can raise the cash inside the beltway, he's the kiss of death to Snowe with the electorate. My bets are she's hoping to take the money, then attempt to distance herself from Liebermann and his likes next year.
