'The View' host Elisabeth Hasselbeck's lesbian theory: Older women just couldn't get a man
Elisabeth Hasselbeck thinks a lot of older lesbians would have turned out straight ... if they could only land a man.

The co-host of "The View" said older women who have led lives of heterosexuality are choosing same-sex partners because men their age are chasing younger women.

"All the older men are going for younger women, leaving the women with no one," Hasselbeck said on Tuesday.

Joy Behar, a co-host of the show, immediately blasted the 33-year-old, calling her late-blooming lesbian claim "ridiculous."

"Being gay is not just holding hands and walking through the tulips," Behar said. "I don't think that you suddenly wake up and say, 'You know, I think I want to do that.' You wanted to do it; you were just trapped in a system that said 'get married.' "

Hasselbeck then said that women might turn to homosexuality later in life not for sex, but companionship

5. Women do turn to each other
for companionship in their later years - but that is not homosexuality. Being friends is not the same as being a lesbian.

Can this woman get any dumber.

Companionship does not equate with homosexuality.

10. Seriously. Could The View really find no-one else but a reality-show contestant for the last spot?
Edited on Wed Jul-28-10 10:19 AM by Mike Daniels
Given that Elisabeth kind of hinted around saying that Erin Andrews brought the stalking she suffered upon herself it's not too surprising that this nonsense would also come out of her mouth.

7. As an "older", heterosexual woman who chooses to be single
Hasselbeck is ridiculous, as usual.

Could it be that some of us actually enjoy being single? Heaven's no...in Elizabeth's mind, there's got to be something wrong with a woman who isn't actively chasing after a man!

I consider myself to be a well-rounded individual. I have friends of both sexes. If I happened to meet a gentleman that I fell in love with, that would be wonderful. If I don't happen to have that experience, does Elizabeth consider me a failure? I guess she does. I would beg to disagree, however.

9. Some "older" women don't want to be baby sitters
seems like a lot of men expect their wives to work all day, watch the kids, and then do the housework. Some women don't want to do that. Since Horseerhalf probably has a maid that does all that she doesn't care. Not all men are like that some help their working wives.

I also enjoy the idea that Hasselbeck must be shunned by her co-stars. I would have given MONEY to see what happened if she said her latest in front of someone like Jane Lynch.

19. I've actually met some women who "came out" in midlife after a heterosexual marriage
They say that they always were lesbians at heart but that they got married because someone asked and it was expected of them.

I also know a man who got married early in life, thinking it would "cure" his homosexual orientation, and came out as gay after his wife died. Explain that one, Ms. Hasselbeck.

28. Very true especially back in the 1950s
This was my Aunt. She had a girlfriend before she married, while she was married, and after she divorced her husband, they moved in together and raised my cousin. As you said, she always knew, but she wanted to put on a front to the outside world, and she wanted children. I am sure many gay men did the same.

As far as older women, I have been married 36 years. If I were to divorce or become a widow, I think I would just like to live out the rest of my life all alone. It would be nice to do whatever I want, whenever I want. Ask the men this question too. I think they would probably say when they reach old age, they would prefer to remain single.

27. Wow, that's some fucked logic there
While I do think the pool of decent single heterosexual males in the middle aged and older age range is what you'd call "slim pickins" to put it lightly, I don't know many straight women to have "turned gay" because of it (actually I know NONE! if they start a lesbian relationship in middle age it's because they've always that inclination and maybe are now finally confident enough in themselves to BE themselves) As far as a single straight middle aged women go.... Most women that age are DAMN picky and not desperate. If you want companionship, there's friends and family and pets. If you're sexually frustrated, there are many products on the market that can help out with that job just fine.

cant quite get what you are saying in your post.

IF you are seriously in quandry, because many people repress their gay self for many reasons due to our society today, and family and other stuff. they get older and say fuck it. i have one life. gonna life it and not in closet or shame.

that help?

because i really need to know if you take this theory seriously. that a hetersexual woman turns gay cause she cannot find a man.

62. The expert on the view said that womens' sexuality is more fluid
A study found that women (self proclaimed gay and straight) were actually aroused by all types of scenes including men on men. Whereas, mens' sexuality is usually set in stone early on (they may be in the closet but their preference is already set. What I got from that was that women who have lead straight lives can easily transition into being with another woman even without having had those feelings in the past.

Well, that twit is obviously brainwashed with the current mindset that only young nubile women have the opportunity for sex.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Liz, but this 51-year-old gets more come-ons - from young men to old ones - than I did when I was your age. You live in some TV land where "older women" are scorned and rejected. Bullshit.

It's like I told the teenage guys I heard making fun of an overweight woman I know. She had two guys clamoring for her attention at the time and I knew it.

"I hate to break it to you guys, but she's getting plenty of action. None of you has had a girlfriend in months. Grow up."

One's sexuality is not determined by the availability of sex, either, which is the main point to make here.

Why is that absolute moran paid to spew this crap?

reason this moron got anything in life is because she's pretty, was on Survivor, and married a pro athlete. Nothing in her intellect or her spirit qualifies her to even open her mouth much less have a national audience to do so. And if she were to ever lose her looks, she'd probably lose everything she has. Then I wonder if she'd still be making such dumb-ass proclamations.

Matrimania and Singilism at their finest. I can't wait until Bella DePaolo gets ahold of this. For those of you not in the know - she's the woman that wrote Singled Out.

Hasselbeck is just as ignorant as the country she resides in. The government of this country wastes tax payer dollars on classes teaching already married people . . . how to be married.

The single never married woman over the age of 35? We are the lucky ones that avoided getting married, having kids, getting divorced, and ending up living in poverty.
