Woman injured (again); boyfriend arrested (again)

I hope no DUer would take abuse like this. Getting out of an abusive relationship is just a phone call away. Break the cycle of violence. Omaha has several homes in secret locations available. The YWCA has a program for this too. Just make a call.

Published Monday July 26, 2010

A 53-year-old Omaha woman remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a Friday night incident at the home she shares with her boyfriend.

Mary Grayer, who lives near 37th and Sprague Streets, was found unconscious in the front yard about 11:30 p.m. Friday. She was taken to Creighton University Medical Center.

Her boyfriend, Larry D. Ebberson, 52, was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence assault. He could face additional charges, Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said Monday.

Ebberson served 90 days in jail for a domestic assault in 2008 in which Grayer was the victim, according to officials with the county attorney’s office.

1. Getting out isn't always that easy
especially since abusers are 75% more likely to kill a victim who tries to leave. Controlling mates hate to see their property try to escape and will stalk, harass, burglarize, beat, and generally ruin the lives of anyone who tries to leave.

Shelters with good security can help, but people can stay there only so long. At some point, they have to go back into the community, the same community where the abuser has been let go.

Maybe this time they'll realize this piece of shit is trying to kill Ms. Grayer and lock him up long enough that he'll be nursing home material when he gets out. That is the only thing that will stop some of these squirrels.

2. Very true, Warpy.
I lost an aunt to an abusive husband when I was young. They don't let go willingly.

3. Its due to stories like this one I continue to teach self defense to women & GLTBTQ people
Both hand to hand and firearms. They are often the easiest victims to control and suffer horrifically. I have no problem seeing an abuser or basher with a toe tag.
