9. Leave and never come back to that establishment - and let them know why
These mindless morons are accessories to the crimes of the psycho right: theft of our 401k funds, the destruction of our economy (loss of jobs, homes), etc.

I don't give my hard earned money to someone who wants to destroy me and my family. Maybe there is a way to find out what political party the owner is registered with - only shop at places owned by a Democrat.

10. You don't always know if its the actual business or the patrons who turn on Faux.

Down here in GA there are a LOT of wingnuts. Even if a business owner is liberal, they might put on Faux because thats what their patrons want (or what they think their patrons want.

And sometimes the employees with the most seniority get to make the TV/Radio selections.I know a lot of people get indoctrinated into the RW through talk radio that they are forced to listen to on the job.

12. So....is this about not being able to tolerate
Fux News, or about trying to be a control freak and not wanting anyone else to be able to see it?

Don't get me wrong...I hate Fux "news" myself. Despise it.

But are people unable to block out the crap by reading a book, or (GASP!!!) actually talking to the person they're with, or making conversation with a stranger, or listening to an iPod or something?

Why do people care so much about what any given establishment has playing on their television sets? Especially if the service/prices are good or great?

If people can't divert their attention somehow, then I feel sorry for them.

If people are attempting to control what others see or hear...no matter how despicable they think Fux news is...then shame on them. It's not their place to control what others see or hear.

14. Nope - it's about blowing the hole in Faux's "rating game."
Faux Not News keeps harping that they have tons and tons of viewers, when the actual truth is that most of their regular viewers are older white males and, frankly, other older whites who are dying out. The average viewer's age is 67.

The only way they get these false high ratings is by counting all the locations where Faux is on whether anyone is paying attention to the boob tube or not and where folks are a fairly captive audience: waiting rooms, gyms, break rooms.

Think of this: despite the fact that MSNBC is not offered in nearly as many basic cable packages as is Faux Not News, MSNBC's prime-time cable shows: Countdown with Keith Olbermann and The Rachel Maddow Show are beating Faux Not News in the "money demo," that demographic of viewers between 25 and 55 who ostensibly have more disposable income because they're working (under non-recession circumstances, granted).

That should tell you, really, how well Faux Not News is doing.

17. This doesn't even make sense
If all these establishments are showing Fux News, whether or not anyone is actually watching, how then are the ratings "inflated"?

And then there's the matter of...who cares what rating they give themselves?

Is the end game, regarding ratings, all about trying to knock Fux news off the air? And if it is, then I ask again...why are people trying to control what others see or hear?

The people who watch that channel think the "liberal" networks are just as abominable. Would it be OK for them to pull the same antics? I'm not asking whether they do or not. I'm asking if it would be OK. Of course not.

As long as it's within the law, nobody has the right to control what someone else sees or hears.

21. If it doesn't make sense, you didn't read it correctly.
By inflating their numbers, they keep sponsors (for example, when all those sponsors pulled from Beck, the network still had enough for other shows to keep Beck's show on the air).

It's been said on here before that Faux Not News either has operatives who switch the channel to Faux in so many places or that Faux gives away free TVs or something if the owner agrees to keep it on that station. I'm not sure why so many TVs are turned to Faux - even in liberal areas of towns like mine who are purple - but there has to be a reason.

So, who is trying to control what others see and/or hear? The business owner, Faux or the customer? If the customer doesn't want to see that shit, shouldn't he/she be able to request it changed? It's not "control" so much as comfort. I get physically ill watching Faux.

15. IMO businesses like that are daring me to do something about it.

So since they want to be that obnoxious with their willful ignorance I usually take them up on the offer.

I take my business to their competitors from that point on. Let them deal with the consequences.

16. To me the real issue
is that too many places of business feel compelled to have a TV on all the time. The Bank of America offices here in Santa Fe usually having the Food Network on. I find that quite annoying. I have been known to turn off TVs in various waiting rooms.

18. That's pretty much what I think too
what a waste of electricity...especially if there's nobody in the waiting room, or people are paying attention to other things.

It's an insult. Like Americans are too stupid to find other ways of amusing ourselves for the 15 or 20 minutes we have to wait before an appointment.

Reading? OMG...what's that????

portable crafts...knitting/crocheting...huh?

crossword puzzles? Never heard of 'em!

iPod with music? Books on CD? bah! can't be bothered!

Oh, here's an idea...let's numb our brains with mindless TV.

sigh... :eyes:

20. Fox Rules!
Ha! You should never use the word "Fox" and "rules" in the same sentence unless you are talking about wildlife!

MAybe we should make up some stickers that say "FOX NEWS SUCKS!" and stick them on businesses' TVs who keep it on FOX. Hmmmm?
MAybe a "Republicans Suck" sticker would come in handy, too!

22. Murray Motors Imports in Denver Co.
The remote is on the coffee table, and the sales drone storms out of his office when I change the channel, and then huffs back in when he sees I'm a customer. I get a kick out of that!
