Portland cartoonist John Callahan dead at 60
http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/07/portland_cartoonist_john_calla_1.html

After a lengthy hospital stay, Portland-based cartoonist and musician John Callahan died Saturday, according to his longtime friend David Milholland. He was 60.

Callahan, a quadriplegic since a traffic accident at age 21, is best known for his cartoons that consistently stepped beyond the boundaries of political correctness and have appeared in nearly 100 newspapers and magazines.

"He was a loyal friend to a whole lot of very talented and unsung people," Milholland said.

3. I've loved his stuff
He was weird, sick, horrible, all the stuff I love the best because it always made me laugh at the grotesque absurdity of it all.

RIP, Callahan. You will be missed.

I am surprised he managed to live as long as he did with the injuries combined with not coming from a rich background. "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot: The Autobiography of a Dangerous Man" is a great book about his life and the troubles associated with being quadriplegic. Quite a difference from Chris Reeves, but with a lot of the same problems.

He shall be missed.
