I thought I knew about Howard Zinn and our common history pretty well. I was wrong.
Edited on Sun Jul-25-10 04:10 AM by ConsAreLiars
I just watched "You can't be neutral on a moving train" and learned way more about the times we shared and the battles we fought in than I ever imagined. I thought I knew pretty much all of it, and that asshole assumption kept me from seeing when previous chances cane to my attention. There is very much that is new to me, I thought I had access to even forbidden information channels. A good Intro 101 to The Hidden History of the US." Documented. not just some rant.

One degree of separation, both in proximity in time an place and values, but also in actions, legal and not. I was surprised by how much I learned about both Zinn and the history he unveils. I was there then and conscious and active, but I knew only a fraction of the whole.

I'm pretty sure most DUers were neither active or even aware way back then, or even know the nature of the battles taking place (we won them for a while at least, but for longer is up to you). Watch this rather than whatever you might spend 80 minutes doing.

Take some time to watch and learn. You won't get this information and history on t6he Corporate owned and operated media.

Watch it if getting more than a fraction, or even several (even nearly all) fractions of a clue is something worth that short amount of time. Calling out myself for not doing this sooner.

1. I've watched it over and over and find something new every time.
Just saw Dan Elsberg's "Most Dangerous Man in America" and that was good, too. I never realized that while the FBI had a manhunt on, he went on national teevee for an interview. Wild.

2. They were both, and not just them, we, the IPC, SDS, WU, and all the rest , and a hundred
underground papers and bookstores and Mobe ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Mobilization_Committee_to_End_the_War_in_Vietnam ) and everything else. We, at least some of us went all out and remained committed activists ever since.

Hey kids, better fight now. We neutered them for a while, but you let them imprison you. Your turn to fight.

8. Having trouble with that torrent
Almost no one to connect to there because Pirate Bay is currently showing as down and I assume that is the main tracker you need to connect to.

Having better luck with this one: http://btjunkie.org/torrent/Howard-Zinn-You-Cant-Be-Neutral-on-a-Moving-Train-2004/4358035741556ae91e136b5c74570392940bc59bc91d Still gonna take some time to download but I cannot abide trying to watch a movie on Youtube. Thanks for the heads up!

12. Thank you. And a request to the unreccers on the anti-progressive side of DU,

Watch the damn documentary. Then reflect on it, then think about which side you really want to be on and which side you really are on. Don't keep getting used and played by those who are our natural enemies, the non-human entities which have gained "legal" title to nearly everything we have produced.

Some nicks on DU are associated with a mental remainder of 'moron, jackass, useless disruptor, ignore' and some with with 'Read This!" Yours are definitely in that second group.

20. It is very imformative, and I was cheered to see his ever-present smile, and
his love for his wife.

What we are failing to do, however, is to find a way to spread this to others.

It doesn't help if it stays in the choir loft.

22. Does it mention the Shelling of St. Louis in the 1870s during the Railroad Strike?
Striking workers took over St. Louis during the General Strike, and appointed a populist council of railroad and postal workers to run the town. Got shelled after 9 months. No wonder St. Louis has been left to burn since then.

23. Wish I could rec this!
When I found Howard Zinn, I discovered the truth of my country, its politicians and their corporate masters.

Even the fairy tails of the founders can be ruined be a couple of hours with People's History.
