Chicago Museum Seeks Live-In Blogger
Chicago has more to offer now than just deep-dish pizza, cool bars and the Cubs: One lucky person will get to spend a "Month at the Museum" -- the Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) -- living there the entire time. This unique experience, where modern science meet human nature, will take place Oct. 20 to Nov. 18, 2010.

For 30 days, the carefully selected individual will get the run of the museum and all its exhibits, as well as live in a clear glass cubicle, where he or she is on constant display. To help pass the time, the museum wants this "roommate" to blog about his or her experiences living inside a museum and being surrounded by science all day long.

In a recent press release on the museum's website, Rob Gallas, MSI's vice president and chief marketing officer, said: "It's a once-in-a-lifetime, ultimate hands-on learning experience. We hear so often from guests that a single visit here changed their lives. We're curious to find out what spending an entire month here can do."

The selection process

The museum has formulated an intensive judging process so that the ideal museum roommate is selected. The website uses words such as "curious," "outgoing" and "adventurous" to describe the individual they seek. In addition to blogging about his/her daily life inside the 14-acre, 117-year old museum, and posting updates on social media outlets like Twitter and Facebook, the roommate will also mingle with museum visitors, students and teachers and have access to all museum resources, such as workshops, science demonstrations and interactive experiments.

8. How ridiculous!
You're not too old, let us say instead that you have an abundance of experience. Trust me, I'm older than dirt, but did that stop me from climbing Everest? Did that stop me from exploring the Sahara? Or working with endangered cheetahs?

Not that I have done any of these things, but I'm damned well going to, and my age isn't going to stop me. And if I don't? Well, it'll be because I'm poor, or have more important commitments, whatever. But I won't allow it to be simply because I'm ancient. And neither should you.:hi:

5. I tried to talk my son into this the other week
He couldn't take the month off. But he would have been great, because he's a math/science guy and a really good writer. He thought I was nuts. I thought the $10,000 was appealing.

I love the idea, and think it is the most original PR stunt a museum has ever pulled off. But I would be scared to death to sleep there all alone every night for a month. I mean, have you ever been to the MSI? It's got that fabulous but creepy old coal mine that's been there since well before I was a kid in the 50s. It's huge and kind of ... well, creepy in parts. You've got to have some cojones to volunteer for this one.
