Nation editor: Obama ‘feeding zealots’ by not standing up to right-wing media
http://rawstory.com/rs/2010/0723/white-house-feeding-zealots-rightwing-media/

By David Edwards and Daniel Tencer
Friday, July 23rd, 2010 -- 4:12 pm

The Shirley Sherrod controversy has shown that the White House needs to stand up to conservative media attacks, or risk "feeding the zealots" in America's political debate, says the editor and publisher of a leading progressive magazine.

The Nation editor Katrina vanden Heuvel told NBC's Today Show Friday that the Obama administration needs to "get a spine."

"This White House needs to institute procedures, as President Obama said, and get a spine because it is feeding the zealots of our system by not standing tall and confronting the forces of hate and fear in a country that has a lot of economic pain," vanden Heuvel said.

1. Zealots out to dominate society
Edited on Fri Jul-23-10 08:46 PM by undergroundpanther
are INCOMPATIBLE with democracy.
The fruits of this earth(existing for free before someone decided they were entitled to own it)and the efforts and fruits of labor is what wealth IS, however, that wealth is stripped away by a belief system created by the ruling class exploiting the fears of the working classes with toxic religion, an inaccessibility and lack of education,a fear of poverty, consumerist culture, etc. When the upper class is nothing but a parasitic redundancy upon the society it manipulates for selfish ends we are NOT FREE. Tolerating oligarchical redundancy serves no useful purpose, it is useless and because this control freak class knows it is useless it does everything it can dream up (eugenics, gay bashing, religious based bigotry, interfering with the people's access to growing food, stopping sharing or allowing the homeless to be beaten to death DYK,police do not track numbers or stats of homeless homicides?),to control the exploited people and pit them against each other and to interfere with with relationships forming between poor, middle class, different identities ,races and genders from understanding each other and most importantly who and what beliefs oppress them. the zealots are tools of the upper/parasite class that exists because of a common erroneous yet tolerated belief that society needs a bloodsucking relationship to the vast interwoven social fabric that stretches across the globe. That parasitic redundancy is the belief in a dependency on capitalists, the acceptance of the power abusers who are in relationship to the citizen what the master was to the slave. We do not need abusers of power, abusers of wealth, social dominator's(zealots),a hierarchical class system created by so called masters and rulers. We don't need these beliefs or systems of exploitation and the exploiter class, and abuse to exist, to live and to thrive as people.

3. A bully posse
Edited on Fri Jul-23-10 09:28 PM by undergroundpanther
Has bullied the left since Reagan. It has very likely been going on before Reagan too.Do you remember the Mc Carthy era? Nobody had a backbone for quite awhile during that shit too. The Left on the hill have been twisted inside by socializing and 'compromising' with zealots, ruling class/over-wealthy bullies, the sociopaths, authoritarians and narcissists. They've been made morally/ethically sick from being around them,it's kinda like Stockholm syndrome.

http://cognitive-psychology.suite101.com/article.cfm/right_wing_authoritarianism

When a bully posse threatens a neighborhood schoolyard for months people are being abused, eventually a fight breaks out, between a target and a bully ..So,how many people watching the fight have the courage to step up and punch the bully in the nose all by them self, defending what is right but seems unpopular in the posse's bully dominated social bubble? How many people with status, power,a job and reputation to maintain want to risk it?? Too often people who choose to by-stand will pass responsibility around like a hot potato and feel guilty and make excuses for not standing up after the fact...

Clinton with zippy retorts punched the wingers in the nose somewhat, but over time he changed tactics from center to more right,he started wars too,he had scandals he wasn't all that ethical,he liked the power trip game too much.

After the pressure to maintain a liberal facade wore off,He became more and more like them when he began to compromise with them, maybe he found his true political identity as did his wife(corporatist).Soon he was golfing with George Bush & the very assholes who impeached him over bullshit that Clinton was dumb enough to turn trumped up yet legal charges the right suckered him into, with the pressure of shame, into actual perjury.
The lesson there was:

You cannot negotiate with psychopaths, period. Psychopathy is a disease that affects people around them so it is really a social/mental disease/injury that manifests in people caused by exposure to abusive toxic morally depraved bullies. The Dem's have been fraternizing with the enemy so much they actually believe some of the shit THE ASSHOLES believe now.Whether they admit it or not, they might believe the bullies propaganda despite claiming to be democrats. It could be Stockholm syndrome & the fucking C street run prayer breakfasts,&believing the posse and fear of the smear machine. So much easier to roll over, fraternize and make believe than stand up against what they are led to believe is an overwhelming psychological opposition..Politicians for the most part are not especially psychologically aware, smart, courageous or moral people beyond most of the other bystanders out there..They hire PR people to get us to believe they are that's all.

4. Dems need help
I feel so much the same way, but I want to do something about
it. I'm looking for someplace, someway to get involved. The
CONS and their ignorant and manipulated drones are very very
organized. They are very very motivated. Look at what they
do, like how they disrupted the Town Meetings last year when
the Dems were trying talk about Heath Care;
"socialism", "death pannels"... There is
no lie to big, no slimey thing to low, the problem with evil
is it has no rules, except one. To win! Furthermore, it is
quite obvious they they mean to win. No matter what. I don't
understand what is so difficult for the Dems. There could not
be any point in time, when it could not be anymore blatantly
obvious as to who the bad guys are and who the good guys are.
The greedy, parasitic corporations, and every Republican
politician is nothing more than a corporate employee.
I think the Dems need help from the people with their eyes
open. We the people that see what's going on need to get
involved. Get organized. Be noisy like the Tea Baggers!

5. Dems Have the Numbers
But they don't have the leadership that is willing to stand up to the Pukes and to forcefully assert themselves. It's definitely not the lack of numbers but lack of will.

6. but funny how hard it is
Edited on Fri Jul-23-10 11:58 PM by undergroundpanther
for a poor person to enter politics.because there is big money required. The leader isn't there because the system is rigged,to keep out people middle class and below, who have the most will and even leadership qualities but not enough money can't run,if they lack charisma and good looks they are doomed. It's sad. Comfortable attractive people with money who are not power lusting bullies or deal with the painful realities of life on the poor or troubled side don't have as much will to change or control things because they like it as it is too much and don't know enough about injustices and so choose to not get involved in politics. It's a catch 22.
