How to reach Blue Cross after hours?
Imagine the horror finding out I owe over a thousand bucks for a routine physical because my coverage "does not meet the age requirements."

What does that mean? I'm 39, and have never had this problem before.

Of course, I didn't find this out until I got home from work and the Blue Cross and doctor's offices were closed for the weekend! Seems to me that:

1. BCBSIL stays up nights dreaming up new excuses to not cover good customers.

2. BCBSIL thinks people only have questions between 9 and 5.

1. Unfortunately your 1 & 2 are right, but why is a physical a thousand dollars?
That's a whole lot of money

2. Actually, two separate claims from the same doctor:
One for $252.00

The other for over 800 bucks for various "Lab Fees"

I can only hurry up and wait--and hope that SOMEONE will admit a mistake!

3. I guess you are all tired....
Of hearing shit like this, aren't you? Sorry to add to the shitpile. I guess it's one of those things that can happen to anyone, no matter how well-covered we think we are.

Still, I can't help wondering what this "age requirement" shit is all about.

6. It's probably not the same Blue Cross. When I was on travel and got injured -
The hospital couldn't call the local Anthem Blue Cross (of Florida) to verify my coverage, they had to call Anthem Blue Cross of California's National Office. Which was lucky, because I had gotten injured "after office hours" and the California office was still open.
He can try, but I don't think they've created an umbrella organization for the Blues yet - especially when it comes to billing, medical records, or other critical customer service issues.

8. Why not just call them on Monday?
I am sure the bill isn't immediately due and even if it is, what are they going to do?

9. It wasn't really a bill, anyway.
Just a claim report of the coming attractions. Just NOT fun to worry about them all weekend....

10. Here's the thing
call them on Monday and for anything that they won't pay.. appeal. Appeal from now until doomsday even if denied repeatedly, the claim is not settled until YOU decide it is settled.

You can also turn them over to your State Department or Division of Insurance if you are not happy by filing a complaint with them. There is also your State Attorney General's office.

You do have options....

11. I'm with you.
I hate waiting the entire weekend to set things straight.

I have BCBS too.

Give 'em hell.
