Friday rant. Rude fucking PIGS and their cars.
Edited on Fri Jul-23-10 04:13 PM by GSLevel9
Ok, here we go...

I am sick and fucking tired of people who use their cars as an extension of their character or an extension of their low IQ. What am I talking about? Well the obvious answer is how maniac drivers act on the highways... but that's actually not my rant today.

I'm talking about parking.

Today I'm sitting in my car in the parking lot and I watch some knuckle dragger pull up and park next to me in some POS and I can feel he's too close. I literally say to myself " Please don't... <WHACK>" ding my door with your door.

Guy looks over with a wave of his hand and goes on his way. Maybe I'm a weenie... maybe not but if I did that, I'd talk to the oener of the car and check for a ding. If I LEFT a ding, I'd leave my info and pay for a paintless dent removal. But I guess that's just me.

Parking. How could you define it? I define parking as a system of organizing cars in an area to store and protect the cars while their owners aren't operating them.

So what bugs me? Why can't people park correctly?

I drive a mid size SUV and we have a Toyota Corolla. When I'm in the SUV, I don't park in compact spaces. Why? Because my SUV doesn't fit. If I force it in that spot I will be uncomfortably close to another car and in my STRANGE brain, I don't LIKE to park 6 inches from another car and squeee out the crack to get out. I will drive around looking for another spot.

And what is up with crooked parkers? When I see a crooked ass car in a spot, I immediately think, "this guy/gal is a fuckin' pig, an inconsiderate pig who takes a shit on the carpeting in the living room for the rest of the family to walk in."

And it's even become a hobby if mine, I watch WHO the people are.

Let em say...

I have NEVER seen a clean cut, showers every day, decent clothed MAN park like shit or ding my car. It's always a knuckle dragging neanderthal OR the occasional young guy.

But women... the crooked ass parking offender is nearly ALWAYS a princess in her GUCCI shades or her True Religion Jeans or her "look at me I have a CAREER" uniform.

In addition, see a Republican bumper sticker on a crooked ass car and 99% of the time it's Mrs. Princess and her FENDI's on her face accompanied by the usual wwjd and protect traditional marriage stickers.

I have NEVER seen a crooked ass parking man or woman who looked "normal"...

I firmly believe that it's an extension of their bad character, they don't give a fuck. The world revolves around them. Man or woman, they just don't care. They don't care about others or the inconvenience they DIRECTLY cause.

Fuck inconsiderate people.

Drives me up the fucking wall! And I drive a Nissan Altima - not a very large car to begin with.

2. I approach parking spaces like I approach men's urinals.
If at all possible, I never take the one next to one in use; I always try to put an empty one in between us.

I'm always amazed, however, that folks try to cram into the parking spaces closest to the building. I find it much easier and faster to park in the "hinterlands" where there's plenty of empty spaces...

Give them a fake name, address and phone number (choose a Dominoes Pizza or something).

Let them puzzle over whether there's actually any damage to their car or not.

My car has an issue starting and sometimes I have to push start it. If I have to park crooked to be able to go downhill, I do.

Yes, we've had it checked and "fixed" several times thank you very much. Battery, cables, started, solenoid, etc etc etc have been repaired and still it happens.

So, fuck me since I am such an inconsiderate uncaring bitch for not caring about "the inconvenience they DIRECTLY cause". Yeah, I am such a egoist, I believe the world revolves around me.

And yes, I am one of those egotistical bitches who thinks only of herself and parks crooked across 2 spaces so I can push start my car and you, poor you, have to walk 6 feet further to park.

I happen to have handicap plates and a hangtag for when I'm riding with someone else; there are good reasons that I need to use those parking spaces. And there have been times when I've seen someone park in one of those spaces and then sprint into the store; I asked one young man why he had the hang tag if he could run, and he told me it was none of my business and that it wasn't his fault that I'm 'a cripple'. And one of our local muckymucks is notorious for parking her big, shiny hummer in the handicap spots designed for vans with lifts; she wasn't happy when she was unable to escape the lot before the ticket patrol nailed her (to the applause of a couple wheelchair customers, by the way). Such people do make it difficult, sometimes, to remember that most people don't act like them. That said, I've considered showing them a new way to use my cane and it has nothing to do with walking.

So, when was the last time you indulged one of the banana splits at Don's in Pt. Townsend?

82. I know very well that happens. Sorry it does happen.
People misuse handicapped parking spaces (my old ma had troubles getting around and it used to piss me off when people used them "just for a minute".

People berate those using handicapped spaces that don't "look" handicapped, but are. When the dear old ma started to have troubles getting around, people told her being drunk was no reason to use the spaces. She used to joke about having a "I'm crippled" sign to wear, but soon deteriorated that it was obvious she needed the spot.

Don's is wonderful. If you can't find something elsewhere, go there (like boys socks. For some reason you can buy girls womens mens socks in town but not boys, except for Don's).

And that's not true.

The Gulf is a mess because of irresponsible corporate cost-saving measures in spite of rules and standards. And the bastards will pay. A lot.

If every American switched over to bicycle tomorrow... there would STILL be oil exploration. Because the REST of the world has an increasing thirst for oil products.

Now when every OTHER human on the planet gives up their cars for bikes I'll be right there with them and will have to figure out how to get to my place of employment.

49. sigh...
there's a lot of gray area between living in a 7000sf Gore-Mansion and driving a Ahnuld-Hummer H1 and riding a bike and living in a cardboard box.

There are practical things we ALL can/should do to be responsible for our lives. Things like making our homes more energy efficient, only running the washing machine with a full load of clothes, setting the thermostat to 80 in the summer.... stuff like that. We buy "green"... use the fabric grocery bags, recycle carefully and support local farmer's markets.... what more do you want?

Why do the extremists always try to paint this subject as black/white?

54. we really need to talk.
I want to UNDERSTAND you. Have a seat and talk to me. I call rude inconsiderate people PIGS because they don't have the innate consideration to park their vehicle correctly. On the other hand, YOU park your car poorly for an understandable reason. So by definition, you're NOT one of the PIGS. So why make such a big deal out of this?

And I'm FAR from special. I'm just a usually quiet voice in the crowd that longs for a world of mutual respect and open kindness.

So talk to me... why are you so upset? Does life have you "on ignore"? Do you feel like you haven't been able to accomplish life's goals because someone has put obstacles in your way?

When you're able to put aside your anger and frustration at whatever upsets you... you will breath a clean, fresh breath of freedom. The freedom to control your own space, your own "bubble" that no one else can molest....

Doctor's prescription for tonight...

Oreo Brownie Earthquake AND Pepperoni Pizza. And a funny movie... maybe a 1990's Jim Carrey comedy?

I'm happy to help. Any time... but just to summarize, when the anger disappears you will feel the weight lift off your shoulders and you will again be able to walk with your head held high and see your fellow Man (as in mankind) in a different way.

Look at me... mad as hell a couple hours ago and now I'm browsing kitten pic's on picasa...

It CAN be done.

This is an interesting thread about a topic that has bothered me too. But as I read, I come upon comment after comment from "uppityperson", virtually all of them very pissy and bitter. Gosh, calm down for a moment. If you're mad at the whole world, fine, but why take it out on us? Yikes.

edit: And yes, you are the angry one. Very angry. How do you not know this?

What always comes to mind is people who damage other people's vehicles in parking lots out of spite.

Then again, people who say they do these things typically live with their mother.

Once a buddy and I boxed one in tight on both sides and waited around to watch the shocked expression on the morans face when they returned............priceless.

121. Only to a specific speed
Like where I am, if you are going more than 10 mph under the limit you will get pulled over for impeding traffic. That can very easily cause a serious accident if you have a group of vehicles traveling at the speed limit then all of the sudden they come up on a car that is going 10 under, here come the brakes and lane changes.

Accident waiting to happen, seen it, survived it, learned from it.

It means a longer walk, but no intrusion on my personal space.

If someone left a dent in my car door and walked off nonchalantly, I'd most likely do something to their car once they were out of sight. Not anything big, just a ding for a ding, or a scratch for a ding.

Nothing irritates me more than a stranger in a restaurant, supermarket, or parkinglot who places themselves next to me when there is a world of open available space away from me.

46. It's been said . . .
"Nobody can pedal the bike for you."

A fine rant, and (I hope) cathartic at some level. And as you know, you can only be responsible for yourself. I will give you kudos for resisting the temptation to park your SUV in a compact parking spot. You are a gem for that, and I wish more people would follow your example.

I trace many of your peeves back to a simple concept, and that is that civics no longer seems to be part of the national conversation anymore. Folks of a certain age can hum the tune to "Please, please don't be a litterbug" just by reading the words. We used to put real effort into bringing up kids to care about and respect their communities, in school and in popular entertainments, as well as in the home.

Much of this went away for several reasons, but I think the chief culprit has been that selfishness has been re-imagined as a virtue by certain segments of our society in order to justify their own absorption. Anymore when you try to advocate for some civic-mindedness, you're more likely to hear variations on "Don't tell me what to do!" for even the most obvious suggestions like not littering or using just one parking space.

We have much work to do.

103. Cars are the Problem
I know I'm going to get blasted for this one, but here goes.

You are right in your assessment, but to add to that a lot of this has to do with the built environment, too. It's a vicious cycle, in that we value cars over people, that's why we have a landscape dominated by highways and roads and more roads and highways then more roads.

Naturally, the more we drive, the less we interact with each other.

The less we interact with each other, the more we feel we are superior and the more suspicious we are of strangers.

The more we feel that individuality is superior to the "group", and that strangers are suspicious, the more we tolerate inhumane behavior and so on.

The cycle just keeps repeating.

The sad fact is that we're losing our civility toward each other because we're losing our "physical" connection to each other. As great an invention as the automobile is, we have allowed it to sever our relationships with each other.

We've got to reverse this somehow. We can't continue like this.

Edited on Fri Jul-23-10 11:20 PM by Tsiyu

not because of the unrecc'ers' poor driving.

this was unrecc'ed in mass numbers because of your blatant prejudice displayed in this thread.

One wonders how you can tell who "showers daily" and one must also wonder why you believe only "clean-cut males" are awesome parkers. Anyone not "clean-cut" is a "knuckle dragger, neaderthal" in your book? Wowser!

And while you have a shown bias against men who appear to be "have-nots," you have a double standard in that women who are "haves' also receive your wrath.

I hate having to explain this, but plenty of people with long hair, without access to water on a daily basis, and even women with Gucci handbags are perfectly fine drivers and parkers.

Not in your world, i see.

But be aware that DU is composed of "uncleancut" males and women with careers. If you cannot see how your post is offensive, the unrecs speak for themselves.

She called me in tears one day because someone had keyed the side of one of his corvettes when she had driven it to the grocery store. She was afraid her husband would be upset. At some point in the conversation she disclosed that she had parked diagonally across two parking spots to avoid door dings.

I had to bite my tongue to keep from telling her that is one of my biggest pet peeves and I could almost understand someone keying the car.

Have you ever painted a car to show quality?
A solid WEEK of block sanding primer and putty. AFTER all the bodywork is done. basecoat, sanding (1500 grit), color coat(s), more sanding. Clear coat, MORE sanding, buffing and hand rub. Materials alone can run $2000. And a lot of these finishes cannot be spot repaired, and are very difficult to match.

More details here:
- a mere $6000 job.

As in the case of your friend. Does wanting to have something nice (or even having to drive the "good" car) mean you need to bring an armed guard?
Remember - your friend did NOT pin someone in, leave door dings, park a wide car in a compact spot, leave half a texas pickup sticking out in the street, park in a fire lane - all she did was try to be considerate with someone elses' car.

...in a parking lot in which I was in the driveway, waiting to turn on to the main drag. If he'd kept backing up, he would have backed directly into my passenger door. I honked the horn. He turned around and looked right in my face. I hadn't moved yet because the car in front of me was still waiting for their turn to pull out onto the street and the asshole started backing up AGAIN and I honked again and yelled "MOTHERFUCKER" and he finally sat his ass still.

Oh, and one more thing...Downtown Willow Glen is the HOME of

30-something soccer moms driving SUV's, big-ass Chevy or Ford V8 pickups, or similar vehicles, while using one hand to talk on their cell phone.

A woman parked next to me yesterday...IN A COMPACT SPOT...with one of these huge Detroit motherfuckers. She took up 1-1/2 spaces and wasn't the only one in the lot doing that.

100. I have a little economical Acura and a big old dilapidated pick up.
And if I go into town, it's always that ugly old truck because no one wants to play chicken with me and they know I have zero to lose so they get out of MY way for a change. I still think we should have LED displays on our windshields: The World is Calling and It Wants Its Oxygen Back.

132. Exactly.
That is why I drive a $3000 Cavalier. I don't care about dings or keying...not that I drive or park like an asshole. And trying to change lanes in heavy traffic....hell, the BMW or Mercedes ain't gonna play chicken with me, cause I don't care if my $3000 car gets hit. Seriously. But hey, it's still a pretty car that gets washed weekly.

MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE IN PARKING LOTS......WHY DO PEOPLE IN BIG EFFING TRUCKS AND SUVs HAVE TO HOLD EVERYONE UP WHILE THEY BACK INTO THE PARKING SPACE? WHY???

105. My "favorite" cell phone driver..
...almost ran me down in a long, straight, empty residential street - I could be seen probably a quarter mile distant in both directions, and was crossing at an crosswalk - which she was speeding down while talking on two cell phones at once.

First time in my life I had to actually dive for cover from one of the things.

She never noticed, of course.

I like to keep it in nice condition. So far only two dings in about three and a half years. I'm pretty sure one of them occurred in the parking lot at my apartment-- Thanks, neighbor!

When I am in a parking garage I go up to the higher, sparsely populated floors. It amazes me to watch people in huge vehicles with the turning radius of a railcar attempt to squeeze themselves into a spot on a lower level when two floors up there's plenty of space to park in whatever horrible manner you'd like. A similar phenomenon occurs in parking lots near the entrance of a store/mall. People spend minutes waiting, searching, and/or maneuvering into a close spot when they could've walked from the back of the parking lot in that time.

It's no surprise really. The same people who can't park worth shit are probably the people that get out in the fast lane with a quarter mile of traffic lined up behind them because they want to have cruise control set on 66mph. The same people that blow through a stop sign to get right in front of you and then go slow... I could go on.

115. Or, what about the person who just pulls into the first opening on the street
without straightening his/her vehicle and leaving the rear-end of said vehicle protruding into traffic.

Edited on Sat Jul-24-10 09:54 AM by USArmyParatrooper
Oh, your car is sooo nice you're entitled to occupy two fucking parking spaces so someone else is stuck driving in circles looking for one? If you can't stand the thought of getting a ding in your precious little car don't buy a fucking Porsche 911. Or go park in the far back. Or just deal with the occasional ding since you can obviously afford it. Mother fucker you're not special just because you drive an expensive car. I hope someone keys your shit just for the hilarious irony of it all.

124. As I stated above
if the space next to them on the drivers side is free, do the same and pull in next to them, just mere inches from their door.

I can understand the "crooked" parkers and bad drivers in lots but I absolutely hate the double parkers.

123. Yesterday, it was the dickwad who parked his car in the bike lane.
I guess parking in the parking lane, doing the parallel parking thing and getting his car close to the curb like it's supposed to be was tooooo hard for this mental midget, so he just stuck his car out, blocking the entire bike lane, and I had to go into the car lane to get around him (getting yelled at by another dipshit who apparently hasn't been informed that bicycles are perfectly entitled to use car lanes like any other vehicle. Yes, I looked, used my hand signal, made sure I wasn't being a douche...)

I was just bitching last night about inconsiderate parkers.

You are spot on!

And I'm a chick who knows how to park my little Cavalier within the white lines. And I don't wear Gucci or Fendi. :-) Target bag and 99 cent store shades.....
