Wow! Mika is really flogging RNC talking points this morning.
With Joe off, I had hoped we'd be spared of that BS.

1. She's bipolitically-curious
It's not uncommon to see her tacking one way one day, the other the next. Probably part of her deal with Joe.

3. WHY do they keep this bimbo blow up doll on the air? I
cannot watch her for even 30 seconds. Are she and Joe lovers? I sure can't see her boosting ratings!

4. I don't like her...but seriously...Do you think she's any
worse than blowhard Joe?

I guess my question is, Why the sexist "bimbo blowup doll" language?...What would you call Joe?...He certainly has no more political heft than she.

5. She's supposed to be the "liberal" on the show! What a joke!
Real liberals can't stand her and see her as a stooge for Joe to play off of.

I certainly hope their illicit affair blows up in their faces. She always comes across as little miss priss and I am so sick of it...let them both be dragged in the mud...

10. I know...and I feel as disgusted by that as you do...I just don't think
that she deserves more "putdowns' than Joe does..and sexist descriptors do that.

11. I can't stand him but at least he doesn't mischaracterize himself. He's a republican.
She, on the other hand, calls herself a liberal but then spouts repub talking points. I can't stand hypocrisy, male or female.

13. I basically agree, although I'd say
Edited on Fri Jul-23-10 10:58 AM by whathehell
that is PROBABLY at the directive of the show itself...That not making her less of a sell-out.

My point is, being female doesn't make her any MORE likely to do that than a male would..There's no lack of male hypocrites...but they don't get those "extra" sexist pejoratives made about them.

It's like being harder on a Black hypocrite than on a White one...Is that fair?..Think of it that way.

Edited for spelling

14. Oh, I agree with you. And she DOES get a lot of sexist shit thrown at her.
I can't stand her going along with it but it shouldn't happen in the first place.

She likes the money...

I get it.

6. i don't like the choice of sexist descriptors either.... BUT
arguably, she does not present herself as a serious, dedicated news person, journalist, or even pundit. She spends most of the time she is on camera, preening quite obviously and frequently allows herself to be demeaned by her flagrant attempts to ingratiate herself with the "good ole boys" on the show--constantly playing up to their vanity. It is as stereotypical as the language the poster used to describe her. Those that recall her admirable abilities as a straight on newscaster before Joe Scab came into the picture, know how horrendously she has sold out--sold her soul. So, I'm loathe to defend her too much--even against sexist language.

12. I agree with much of what you have said and I'm not defending her as a "journalist" by any means..
But, do you think a lot of the "pretty boys" in acting AND broadcasting..are either "dedicated newspeople"..or "dedicated actors"?....

Why do THEY not get treated to the gratuitous sexist shit that is layed on virtually EVERY woman who's attractive, but a less than "stellar" performer in the opinion of SOMEONE, usually male.

I just think it's a mistake for women to denigrate other women in ways they would NOT denigrate men who are equally lame.

15. Maybe because she is setting serious woman professionals
back decades with this reliance on stereotypical "feminine wiles" to get ahead with the Rethug misogynist white male crowd in which she ingratiates herself?

17. I get you...
I'm just saying that I think castigating her in EQUALLY retro, negative sexist terms hurts ALL women, The silly, the sell-outs, AND the Serious.

If, OTOH, one says something on the order of you've said..e.g. "She acts like a 1955 stereotype"..That, I think, is helpful.

22. You are absolutely right one with your depiction of the "pretty boys."
I call them the "smart asses." They are disgusting and I hold them responsible for their sexist crap every day.

I'd really like to talk to Mika about why she puts up with this and doesn't try to get her edge in there a little bit more. It seems like when Joe is there she gets all girly and silly. When he is not there she can get steely, like today, but against the Dems not JOe's repubs...why is THAT? just askin'...

16. As a woman myself...
...I find the words "bimbo blowup doll" to be descriptive rather than sexist in this case. Really -- Mika is a sorry excuse for a news co-host, who rarely is able to articulate an alternative position when Joe spews his positions. Also her attitude towards him is so coy it is truly nauseating.

Now I'm not claiming the words are not inherently sexist. Most of the time I would agree they are sexist. However in this case, I truly do find them to be descriptive.

I do not get that at all. It bugs me. It helps them. A gift to Scab.

20. Are we promoting it?....We're complaining about it...I know that many progressives
like myself, are "guilty" of watching it...but I think it's because they often feature progressive guests....Even WITH that, however, I'm now at the point of complete disgust..I just can't watch them anymore...Especially during the first hour when there ARE no guests and it's just the "regulars" spewing out their Right Wing shit.

I'm done with it...Maybe if dems and progressives stop watching, it will gain a FOX-like reputation and progressive guests will stop coming, which, of course, would be a good thing.

23. As a Joe, I won't watch him ... and I have emailed CNN saying ..
That at dinner time, I put my TV on MSNBC ... then I go to bed ... and in the morning, I immediately turn off Joe Scab and switch to CNN, because if I wanted to listen to an endless list of GOP talking points, I'd watch Fox News .... because they are funnier than Joe Scab in their presentation of those same talking points.

9. She allows herself to be used as the show's sex symbol.
The promo shots of her in 4 inch (I think they were red) heels, snuggling up to Joe in cabs, and showing her legs at every opportunity make me not take her "journalistic" ability too seriously. She is eye candy.
