Huffington Post sucks
Please excuse me this morning. It's way too early and I'm way too tired and I've only had half a cup of coffee. And I just clicked to Huffington Post to check out the headlines.

Screaming headline # 1: The Buck Stops ... Somewhere Else. (Obama Blames Media For His Administration's Firing of Shirley Sherrod)

Screaming headline # 2: NYT - Administration's Haste Was Unfair And Unseemly. Glenn Beck Was Right.

Smaller headline farther down: How The Neocons Won And Obama Lost

And so on and so on ...

HEY!! Supposedly Left-Wing Media Bozos! How about a headline like "The Buck Stops ... At Fox News" or "Fox News Manufactures Headlines, Cackles When People Actually Believe Them" or just a simple "Glenn Beck Is A Moran" ... ?

The right-wing spin machine is SO good at what they do. And their message is SO clearly wrong. Why do they keep getting away with it? Any idea, Ms. Huffington? Any idea at all?

1. Arianna Huffington has positioned herself...
...as queen of the leftbaggers.

The only worthwhile thing on her site is the T & A (sometimes).

39. You named yourself well.
"Leftbaggers" as a negative label for the left, on a supposed "left-wing" message board, where dissent from the left is deleted, and attacks on the left are allowed to stand.

Scurrilous, indeed.

Remember that Ariana was (and probably still is) a right winger.

6. So, all of the blame goes to the White House?
Fox News and Breitbart don't deserve one headline? Beck is right?

Who's side you on?

BTW, I agree that the Obama administration fucked this up, but your desire to put all of the blame in one place really tells us something - about you.

8. Try to read and understand....
... ALL OF THE BLAME FOR THE ABJECT MISHANDLING OF THIS INCIDENT GOES TO THE WHITE HOUSE. AND WITH AMPLE PRECEDENT.

It's clear that Obama is going to have a knee-jerk REPUBLICAN response to every racial issue and HE DESERVES EVERY OUNCE OF CRITICISM FOR IT.

IT'S NOT ABOUT BREITBART IT IS ABOUT THE STUPID, STUPID, STUPID RESPONSE. GET IT?

9. No one here campaigned for, donated to and voted for Fox News.
We know they're a bunch of idiots pandering to a bunch of even bigger idiots.

I think we expect the people we campaigned for, donated to and voted for to be a little bit smarter than to fall into a trap laid by idiots. There were flashing neon signs all around this one.

15. you're not "expecting" Fox Noise/Breitbart to be a bunch of idiots
if you give them a pass you are CONDONING their idiocy.

No "news" organization should get away with promoting misleading unverified stories. To just say "well, we expect that from them" is a license for that type of crap to continue.

12. At the end of the day, the administration is responsible for its own actions
That's what "The buck stops here" means. Fox News and Breitbart do not control the White House.

On that end, the administration has accepted responsibility, apologized, and asked Sherrod to return to work. The President personally called her. That was the right thing to do.

The Huffpo headline is wrong in so much as it ignores that fact that the administration has acknowledged where the buck stops.

Edited on Fri Jul-23-10 10:11 PM by SnakeEyes
If the WH hadn't kneejerk reacted to foxnews.com and Breitbart's site then this whole thing blows over when the NAACP puts out the full video the next morning. What does Beck to do with this though? He didn't run with the story on his show. He defended her the next day.

5. What sucks is that once more my President has positioned himself
to be further defined by the rw. In the media it is now a "fact" that the Administration is the blame for everything related to the firing/hiring/apology and Sherrod is an albatross around the admins neck. Half way into their first and perhaps only term and they have no clue about getting messages out and defining their own policies.

18. The Huffington Post sucks for many other reasons as well.
For instance its frequent and regular featuring of the worst sorts of quackery, anti-vaccine paranoia, and bullshit 'alternative medicine'. I can't take anything they say on other things seriously because of their apparent commitment to anti-scientific nonsense in the area of health and medicine.

31. Seeing how Breitbart and Arianna Huffington go way back...
He did 'research' for her and was heavily involved in setting up Huffington Post, it is NO surprise to me that their headlines are as they are.

They are NOT left, not even 'centrist' and Ms. Huffington continues to provide a 'home' for rabid right wingers to smear the Democrats and the Obama Administration. On top of that the site, itself, is a POS, so full of add-on advertising it takes forever to load even if one wants to read the crap on there which I don't and haven't for quite some time.

37. It's Google Ads.
DU doesn't control what Ads Google Ads show. Those Ads are just in the same category as the website (political), so it displays them. The owners of DU has no say in what Ads are shown, and which aren't.

(This isn't an ass kiss. Google Ads are like that on every site).

I demolished a multiple-thousand-fan poster for misogynist, bigoted talking points. A fellow loon jumped in to defend the bigot as well. Both were thoroughly crushed, as they were just rambling trollish, moronic points that made no sense. As a result, because one was a moderator, my post was deleted, despite never breaking any of the rules (not even a personal attack in it, or mentioning of the poster - just counter points). lol

HuffPo is a junky tabloid site, where you can't actually have a real debate like on DU with other posters. I've been a member since 2005, but haven't been a frequent poster since 2008 due to the site's general suckiness and uselessness of the comment section (99% RW trolls and spam, the 1% gem posts aren't worth the time).
