Some great photos of protesters outside the Phoenix Courthouse today...

...where U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton held hearings on the ACLU and DOJ challenges to SB 1070, the Arizona "Papers, please" law.

Seven anti-SB 1070 protesters were arrested, and those arrests are also captured in photos.

1. Excellent documentation of the confrontation...
A very vivid slideshow too.

I was surprised at the number of people protesting...

Recommended!

2. They added more photos after I first went there
I'm not sure that it added much, as the photos were impressive to begin with. And the courtroom sketches show what will likely be history being made...

5. No, they're fighting back!
Of all the good photos, I think my favorite is this one:

6. I was told that a Republican family member's mexican ancestors have
been in this country for over 300 years. And that this Republican family member is outraged that he and his daughters will be stopped and treated like criminals for being mexican. This law does not begin to address the violations of people being brown while being in certain American cities.

7. A close friend who is Mexican-American (you couldn't tell from looking at him)...
...has grandkids who come in a range of colors. Some of them are in Texas, near the border. My friend wonders if his grandkids, all fourth-generation Americans, will face demands that they PROVE they're Americans...

8. I noticed there were no Latino police there
I'm sure there are plenty of Latino police in Arizona. There are plenty of them everywhere there are large Latino communities. Oakland and San Francisco has had them for decades along with all other minority people.

And I love the peace doves and the fact that there are so many women there!
