Nuisance geese killed by Bend park district become meals for needy

BEND -- Geese killed by the Bend Park & Recreation District last month have been turned into meals for the hungry in central Oregon.

The decision to kill more than 100 Canada geese that had become a nuisance was criticized by animal rights activists.

But the park district had the animals professionally butchered and frozen, then donated the meat to feed the needy, The Bulletin newspaper reported.
