George Clooney to receive Emmy humanitarian prize

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – Actor George Clooney, who led a galaxy of stars in a January telethon fundraiser for Haiti's earthquake victims, will receive a special Emmy Award for his humanitarian efforts on August 29.

The 49-year-old Hollywood heartthrob will be honored for hosting the "Hope for Haiti Now" television special, as well as his efforts to raise funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina and raise awareness of the crisis in Darfur.

"George was an obvious choice for this honor," said John Shaffner, chairman and CEO of the Television Academy.

"He has understood and harnessed the power of television, the most powerful medium of our time, to reach into the hearts of people around the world and compelled us to action on behalf of those in sudden and desperate need, as well as those tragically oppressed in Darfur."

The Bob Hope Humanitarian Award was established in 2002 and Clooney will be its fourth recipient.

ETA: His aunt Rosemary Clooney performed with Rosemarie for years in Four Girls Four and that's when my friend N---- got so close to Rosemary and her brood and by extension George. N---- is Rosemarie's daughter. Is that clear as mud?

In a past life when I worked for a corporate flight planning company I witnessed the following.

He used the Universal Studios private jet (12 seat Gulfstream 4) to fly himself and a friend from LA to Italy. The plane then flew back to LA empty. 4 days later the same aircraft flew round trip to Italy again to pick up Mr Clooney and his friend. That is 4 huge trips (hundreds of thousands of pounds of jet fuel) of a large private jet for 2 people to visit Italy for 4 days.

But do not fear; he did not waste the trip. While he was there he made an appearance at a climate change event to preach the advantages of fuel efficient cars.


He is the classic example if "Do as I say not as I do" Hollywood.
