Rand Paul tells farmers they may face program cuts
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Republican Senate candidate Rand Paul told an audience of Kentucky farmers Thursday their federal payments may need to be cut in the interest of national debt reduction, a declaration his Democratic rival said posed a threat to tens of thousands of the state's residents.

"I'm always going to put Kentucky first. I'm not going to come up with a risky scheme," Attorney General Jack Conway said in a feisty joint appearance with his tea party-backed opponent in one of the country's most closely watched races.

Appearing before the state Farm Bureau Federation board of directors, Paul denied that he favors elimination of the Agriculture Department and steered well clear of saying he wanted to get rid of farm support programs despite Conway's accusations that he did.

Instead, Paul said free trade would benefit farmers and jabbed at Conway. "I won't be afraid to stand up to the unions who oppose" pending agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea, he said.

3. Maybe we should let farmers farm their land instead of
paying subsidies so they don't grow things. Just a random thought..

4. Its the big factory farms
say those that are not exactly family farms it is mainly the big corporate farms/ags that bring in 250,000 on up,mostly the million $ ops that get the most of that get those subsidies. The whole mess is upside down thanks to lobbyists working for Companies like Cargill, ADM aka Archer Daniels Midland etc.

5. Even more reason to cut the subsidies
it's just a yearly bonus for these mega corporations. It is totally screwed up.

6. That would be counterproductive to a racketeering enterprise
Tobacco products are taxed heavily while the growth of tobacco is also taxed and SUBSIDIZED! So tobacco farmers can sell their cancer-causing products all over the world, but consumers pay for buying them! Then people wonder why we had a civil war. lolz.
