1. It's tough to do what he did.
Going out there and publicly apologizing in the way he did is not an easy thing for a politician to do.

No. You watched a well rehearsed falling on a sword
It was about him

It should not have been about him.

9. How was it about him?
Because you judged it to be so?
Does that make it all official,
or can some disagree with your take,
which of course, couldn't be all about you?

29. The OP asked what "you" thought of things. I answered that. By definition, that's about me.
My view isn't official. It is, simply, my view. It is as right as your view. You're free to take issue with it. And from the tone of your post to me, you seem to take issue with. So long as that's all you take, we're fine, aren't we?

So yes, in answer to you, anyone is free to disagree with my take.

I disagree with your take, so why not disagree with mine.

Then there are those special takes. The epic takes. The memorable takes. I've had some very memorable takes. Takes I'll likely not forget for a long time.

So now, for the second time, I'm done. Have fun.

11. I think he ought to resign
He's an embarrassment to the administration.

Sherrod has forgiven. But he's shown himself to be too weak for his leadership position.

16. I believe him too.
He was genuinely sorry for being an idiot and said so. He didn't hide behind anyone, he took the rap for firing her, for not looking into the matter before jumping. There was a hint of anguish when he said he had apologized to Mrs. Sherrod and she had accepted....the man stood there and admitted his mistake. Anyone who asks for more is a scalp hunter.

Edited on Wed Jul-21-10 04:51 PM by lunatica
I'm so used to being ignored by the Whitehouse that I'm in shock. I sent them an email yesterday demanding she get a public apology and that Vilsack should be reprimanded.

Wow! I feel like the abused spouse who just had a request granted by the abuser instead of being backhanded.

28. Here is the CSPAN link with his press conference...
http://www.c-span.org/Watch/Media/2010/07/21/HP/A/35860/Agriculture+Secretary+Tom+Vilsack+Press+Conference+on+Sherrod+Firing.aspx so you can judge his sincerity, etc.

I thought he was quite sincere in his apology and feels very badly about what happened to Ms. Sherrod but, again, you can see it yourself.

Whether or not he can make it up to Sherrod remains to be seen. Could you ever trust your employer again if he did the same thing to you?

32. he was too evasive when questioned about having any contact with
the White House before asking for her to resign.
As I stated, I feel there's more to this story.
I didn't hear him say he had the authority to fire her and there was no need to speak to Obama or any of his staff members.
Did you hear differently?
