I flew over the "spill" today

on a flight from Fort Lauderdale to Houston.

The captain pointed it out.

There was complete silence in the aircraft as we all looked down.

God, it is awful. And I saw it from way, way up.

8. I've seen the satellite pics.

I've spent a lot of time out in the gulf sailing and fishing and did not cover any significant fraction of the area covered by the 'spill'.

The Gulf is a big place, and boats/ships are really, really small. My children grew up going to gulf shores, orange beach, perdido key, johnson beach, pensacola beach, navarre, fort walton, niceville, destin, panama city and carabelle.

The gulf beaches will never be the same. Ever.

BP has destroyed a way of life for many of us. I don't really know what should be done except extract money (the only thing that will cause 'hurt') from those responsible. The only other thing we could do is drown them in crude oil.

I now understand those who bang their heads against walls in frustration.

Time to move to the Rocky Mountains and lose myself in their grandeur.

WHERE were the boats? The skimmers?

We saw very few boats.

10. Gusher capped or not, the prospects of a hurricane or even a TS plowing through the oily GOM

and making landfall in LA, AK, or NE FL scares the piss out of me...:scared:

And I live over a thousand miles north of the Gulf Coast.

I am very upset about what has and is continuing to happen down there, and won't just "forget" about it like the MSM and probably many other people in the US, who are not or will not be directly affected by this catastrophe.
