Has anyone had any luck getting Costco to un-discontinue an item?
I just got back from my monthly quest to Costco and they have discontinued their "Weight Control" formula dog food, which I have found is just about the best dog food I can buy without taking out a second mortgage.

They have three adult food choices now, and none are low fat. Apparently Costco doesn't care about overweight dogs?

I probably wouldn't be complaining, but this is the third staple item that they have discontinued in the past year. It's getting annoying enough that I'm starting to get a little upset with the single retailer that has never upset me.

I'm going to write them, but I fear it wont even be read. Any other ideas?

1. It happens all the time the nature of big warehouse stores...
They had this pasta mix stuff that was devine... and the lettuce in a clamshell has disappeared occasionally... heck even coke products were verboten for a while.

2. It doesn't hurt to write
because if enough dog parents write, they'll bring it back. Retail operations, even those as big as Costco, respond to customer demand.

3. Yes I have
They stopped carrying Vegan Boca Burgers. I called and spoke directly to the buyer and then asked a few of my friends who also liked them to e mail her.

Some products disappear for weeks at times due to difficulty in getting quantities from the distributors.

Call the corporate office in WA and see if they'll give you that specific buyers direct line or email. The folks in the store really don't know what they are gonna have from month to month.

5. I talked to a guy there, who talked to another person..
Who told me it was discontinued. I think that probably means other shoppers have been asking the same question.

Thanks for the advice, I'll call.

23. If it's been discontinued then perhaps the problem is the manufacturer has stopped
making it. In which case there isn't much they can do.

4. I think everything I've gotten at Costco was good.
Whenever they discontinue a product, I miss it, but they often bring in a new product I like anyways.

6. Don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Unemployment is double digit, funds for payment exhausted and a
DUer is concerned because a discount retailer does not stock a low-fat dog food.

Just wondering how unemployed workers see the irony of the situation.

8. It's not a zero sum game.
Truly. Dog food choices in Costco has nothing to do with the other things. It is still a concern for some. Not everything affects everything else.

And I currently have no UI.

Since my dog is unemployed too, I have to provide for her.

21. I'm betting that the unemployed people who own dogs have
the cost of feeding their animals as a high priority. Should they kill their dogs? Would that make you happy? Jebus...

22. I agree- I will let my cat starve and will live on whatever I have left in my pocket...
because somebody somewhere is having a hard time.

(And I will starve myself because the Gulf Gusher may not be fixed.)

11. That dog food is made by someone..maybe there's an address on the bag
that you could write to or call.. maybe they sell it elsewhere under another name :)

Good luck.. We switched our 24 lb 7 oz cat to Science Diet low-cal & he's looking pretty svelte after 2 months :)

15. It's made by Diamond, a premium brand..
with a premium price.

Unfortunately I could only afford it when it was rebranded at Costco.

16. ack !
I guess writing to Costco might help, but if something does not sell as well as other items, they will cut it..or maybe Diamond raised the price too much for Costco to absorb..

Good luck to your chubby pooch..I hope you find an alternative:)

12. "Apparently Costco doesn't care about overweight dogs"

What a cause! Rage against Costco!

Oh, BTW, did you simply ask? Costco is strange...sometimes they only stock what they can get cheaply at a particular time from a certain retailer. Some Costco's may carry this, and others may not. Just ask the person behind the CS counter. Ive done the same and they've looked into for me

17. Try Target? We're on Extreme Low Budget, lol, and we get our pet food
at Costco, too, but sometimes Target's price is almost as good for pet food and litter. I'd call and see if they have it. :hi:

18. Write to them or call them.I have gotten them to restock items they discontinued
maybe not *me* personally, but every phone call adds up, right?

Also many of their items are regional, so let's say you live in Seattle and they don't have it at the downtown store they may have it in Shoreline (if you have more than one costco in the area).

Give them a call! They're very pro-customer. I've never had an issue with them EVER. They'll even refund your membership if you move to a place where they don't have Costco's...even if your membership is up for renewal next WEEK they'll give you the full price back of your membership.

We bought a dryer there a few years ago, and when we got it home and out of the box it had a gash and dent on the top...nothing huge, and big deal but It was a flaw. Since I ddn't have the rental truck to take it back to show them the damage, I just went to the returns counter and told them about the damage and showed them a picture on my cellphone I took, and they gave me a $125 refund. I think the dryer was only $300 or so, so that was a nice refund amount. I certainly wasn't expecting that much.

I've also returned a box of food that I opened but didn't like. I know it sounds trashy but it was like a $13 box of chicken filets. They just were full of cartilage. I took it back and they gave me a refund no questions asked.

they're always ranked high on customer satisfaction reports, and treat their workers exceptionally well.

24. Don't have a Costco around, just a BJ's, and they do the same thing...
choices are limited enough and there's a lot of stuff I can get better and cheaper at the soopermarket, but once in a while they have something unique that's great.

Then it disappears. Usually it's because their supplier disappeared or wouldn't meet the price they pay.

25. What brand of weight control dog food?
If it's against the rules to name the brand pm me...both my dogs eat weight control..cuz they're fatties. :-) maybe BJ's or another wholesale place will have it, or one comparable.

Or you could check online, you might even find it cheaper.

I buy mine from a pet store, and there's barely a difference in price, especially since it's been on sale for about 3 months. I either pay $29.99 or $32.99 for a 44 lb bag. And they always have coupons in the mailer and this weekend they had an additional 20% off.
