Fundie Xtian Frauds: Progressive taxation is "unfair, unjust and unbiblical"
from the Good Xtians of the American Family Assn., who must not believe that part of the Bible about no one being more important to God than the poor.:

By Bryan Fischer

A progressive tax structure - in which the rich pay taxes at a higher rate because, well, they’re rich - is fundamentally unfair, unjust and unbiblical.

When God set up a tax structure for ancient Israel, the rate was 10% across the board, rich or poor. If it’s good enough for God and Jesus, it ought to be good enough for us.

Imagine going to buy a car, and asking the salesman how much a particular car cost. He says, “Well, that all depends on how much you make. The sticker price floats based on your income. Cough up your 1040, Buster, and we’ll tell exactly what we’re going to charge you.”

You’d just take your auto-buying business someplace else. Fleecing the rich only works if they’ve got no place else to go.

New Jersey’s Gov. Chris Christie understands this, which is why he vetoed a millionaire’s tax as fast humanly possible. In fact, he set a land speed record for a veto in the process. He was sitting at his desk just waiting for that bill to be delivered to him. As soon as he got it, he flipped to the page with the signature for his veto and inked it.

Christie explained that it’s counterproductive to raise taxes on the rich if you care about state revenues and about ordinary working men and women. This is because the rich have options to relocate. You drive their taxes too high, they’ll just move someplace else where taxes are lower. They take with them their tax revenue, their creativity, their talent and their investment income.

The result is fewer jobs and lower wages for ordinary folk who are left behind and who don’t have the same relocation options. Tax revenues and the investment dollars that could create jobs and raise wages is gone, baby, gone. .........(more)

4. Ummm...
Before the Babylonians invaded, the Israelites were pantheistic pagans. They adopted dualistic monotheism from the Iranians who overwhelmed Babylon and freed the slaves.

I bet that would shock the shit out of a few Fundy loonies.

2. These Reptards are despicable. They don't know their Bible, either.
The tithe supported the priestly class (who probably came up with the idea). The rich were under other rules to help the poor. They could not harvest all of their crops so that gleaners could go through and pick up food. They were supposed to cancel all debts every 50 years! This was the Jubilee. There is no evidence it was ever done but God said to do it. Well, what would happen if today all debt was canceled and everyone started over? Let's give it a try Mr. Xtian Reptard!

Also, Xtian's are Jews. The Jews lived under the old Law with the tithes, etc. Under Christianity we read that things were sold and the wealth distributed to all who had need. But isn't that Socialism, why yes it was.

These Reptards are dismal failures, even at understanding the Book they claim to find Salvation in. Jesus is a Socialist. To the least of these, creeps....

5. Perhaps they should read Mark 12: 13-17
13 And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.

14 And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.

16 And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's.

17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.

7. Correct. And Paul was very clear that Christians should pay their taxes. Now
those taxes were to the Roman government. That government, arguably, was "worse" than ours, right? If you were in Jerusalem it was a foreign government that was occupying your native land, right? Yet Christians are told to honor the king, respect the laws of man, and pay taxes. Why don't we hear the teachings that are all progressive? We don't even hear the golden rule. Jesus said, "Why do you call me "Lord" and not do the things I teach?" Why indeed, Reptards.

8. Glad you brought up Jubilee!
Also, usury, (interest) is forbidden, but it has been my understanding that all of the Mosaic laws only apply to the Chosen People, and not the Gentiles, etc.

There is a huge disconnect by consum-a-xtians about anything in the Bible or what it might mean -- not that I think that the OT is anything more than a tribal document taken to an extreme, while the NT is questionable in its origin.

When one meets and talks with religious people who at least understand and wrestle with the implications and meanings of their religion, one finds a far different kind of perspective often tinted with respect, compassion and humility. You can measure the confidence by how they present themselves and can converse in an open, honest way, as well as by how they are not overwhelmed with a compulsion to convert you or attack your understanding of things.

America seems to be riddled with a Christianity that is more like fast food and simulated veneer than a good old fashioned, hearty, nutritous home-cooked meal.

6. I remember reading about when God set up the tax structure
Edited on Mon Jul-19-10 01:09 PM by EstimatedProphet
Ah. Here it is:

Genesis 1:26-32

26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.

31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

32 And on the sixth day, God said "Let there be a tax which is 10% across the board, so that the rich do not have an undue burden which will force them to move someplace else where taxes are lower, and will be free to create jobs for ordinary folk who are left behind and don't have the same relocation options."

11. Wonder how the parable of the vineyard workers who got paid the same does to them?
"The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard. Going out about nine o'clock, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and he said to them, 'You too go into my vineyard, and I will give you what is just.'

So they went off. (And) he went out again around noon, and around three o'clock, and did likewise. Going out about five o'clock, he found others standing around, and said to them, 'Why do you stand here idle all day?' They answered, 'Because no one has hired us.' He said to them, 'You too go into my vineyard.'

When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, 'Summon the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and ending with the first.' When those who had started about five o'clock came, each received the usual daily wage. So when the first came, they thought that they would receive more, but each of them also got the usual wage. And on receiving it they grumbled against the landowner, saying, 'These last ones worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who bore the day's burden and the heat.'

He said to one of them in reply, 'My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? (Or) am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?'

Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last."

12. Excuse me, but do we live in the USA or Israel? Does the brilliant author know that modern Israel's
tax structure looks very much like that of the USA? What the hell does something that was set up 5000 years ago have to do with life today? Where is this garden of Eden where everybody, from the poorest to the richest, pays the same tax rate?

15. They really need
to read James Chapter 5 which gives a great warning to the rich and how God feels about their greed. Verses 4-6 seem especially directed towards the corporate elite of today: Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not opposing you.

27. They didn't forget that part.
They just decided that Jesus only meant for that one guy to do that. He didn't mean for everyone to do that. Yes, I've had more than one Christian tell me that with a straight face. Same idea for anything else Jesus said they don't want to do, like refraining from praying in public or paying their taxes. It's a damn convenient religion the AFA practice. They get to pick and choose which of their deity's instructions to obey.

17. Did God take inflationary pressures and a labor glut into account?
Is God a Keynesian or a Monetarist?

And how does God reconcile with the change from a semi-nomadic agrarian bartering economy to a capital-debt based manufacturing economy?

The Bible isn't even mentioned in Capitalism and Freedom by Milton Friedman.

The early church was pretty socialist in nature, viz:

Acts 2

44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

21. Then why does the modern state of Israel proudly claim a progressive income tax system?
http://www.worldwide-tax.com/israel/israel_tax.asp

Taxation of Current Income (Personal Income Tax)
Personal Income Tax (for both the employed and self-employed)is a PROGRESSIVE tax starting at 10% and increasing to a maximum of 45% (at present, on a gross monthly income of about USD 10,300).
Allowance points are granted on the tax due which reduces the tax payable (an allowance point is worth approximately$ 600 a year).

Repukes are not good for prosperity of the nation, they seem to want to bankrupt America both morally and economically.

37. Maybe they should look further at the biblical tax structure
Loans were forgiven every seventh year - and for those parts of the tribes of Israel who really did poorly, there was the jubilee year - the fiftieth year. Then all the land was divided back to each of the families. So, if your great grandfather lost the family's land, you were again a land owner. (I think I got that right.)

This is beyond where US liberals are - so, I think they need a different Holy Book - maybe by Ayn Rand.
