I-580 shootout suspect mad at left-wing politics

(07-18) 17:59 PDT Oakland -- A 45-year-old parolee, described by his mother as angry at left-wing politicians, opened fire on California Highway Patrol officers on an Oakland freeway early Sunday and was hit by return fire while wearing body armor, authorities said.

1. Why was this man out on parole?
It wouldn't be unreasonable to blame California politicians for lenient prison sentences for violent offenders.

3. The CA prison system probably needed prison space for non-violent
weed offenders.

7. Exactly
The War On (some) Drugs has completely perverted the system.

16. Yup empty the cells of all violent robbers, rapist, arsonist, and burglars.
We need to make room for those scary people who smoke a little weed.

The war on drugs is stupid. I mean really it has to rank up there as one of the stupidest decisions this country ever made.
Even the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan pale in comparison to the trillions upon trillions wasted in the war on drugs.

It was worked as well (and as predictably) as prohibition on alcohol did.

Federal laws myself. To me it says more of the failure of gun control laws than anything else.

6. He got the guns from his tea bagger mother's safe
Janice Williams said she kept the guns because "eventually, I think we're going to be caught up in a revolution." But she said she had told her son many times that "he didn't have to be on the front lines."

I though tea baggers seemed the most likely grouping (not to say they are not with other groups as well).

18. I didn't say that did I? The relevant quote is "she believed there was going to be a revolution "
And my response was that many here on D.U. believed this when shrub was occupying the White House. I made NO statement about D.U. members shooting it out with anyone did I?

You CAN'T compare trash talk with shooting people!

27. I made no such equivalency. You may have assumed that but that does
not make it so. It says more to your state than it does to mine. I made a comparison to the mother that said there was going to be a revolution to those on D.U. that said the same when shrub was in office. I've made NO comparison between the criminal son that had no legal right to firearms and D.U. members.

So I state and ask again: I believed it was stupid then and I believe it is stupid now. How about you?

30. This is the problem with posting things on the internet. You post one thing
Edited on Mon Jul-19-10 12:31 PM by Hoopla Phil
someone assumes a different thing, you try to clarify and the person comes back saying you admit a third thing. Your logic has no clear path.

First: I commented that what the mother said about a revolution was the same as what many on D.U. said when shrub was in office. That's it, no more.

Second: I made NO equivalency of the criminal son to anyone on D.U. None, zip, natta! I challenge you to quote me where I did.

Third: I made no statement on who's paranoia is more dangerous. I did not make any statement to that effect and as a point of staying on topic to what I DID say I will not.

Forth: I have stated three times now and asked three times now that any talk of revolution because of who's in office is stupid. It was stupid then and it is stupid now. How about you?

31. Here's what I don't get...
You're upset that what you posted is apparently taken incorrectly as a false equivalence between the left and the right. What you posted didn't state that equivalence, and so you believe that people are jumping to conclusions.

Yet at the same time, I never accused you of claiming that people on the left have been violent, even though you immediately jumped to the conclusion that I was accusing you of saying that, in post #18 and in post #28.

23. Which explains why I said "though"
Let me break this down:

Rightwing in power - elements on the left believe there will be a revolution.
"Left"wing in power - elements of the rightwing believe there will be a revolution, and then start shooting people.

28. I will not debate that with you. However, I made no comparison of the
criminal son to D.U. members. My comparison was the mother's mindset that there would be a revolution. Again I stress, I made NO comparison of the son's criminal actions to any D.U. member.

13. Foreboding of things to come
Take a look at Oathkeepers if you're not familiar with them yet. (I'm not saying he's an Oathkeeper BTW.) When you have an armed group that is convinced that they are going to be repressed at some point, and spend their time looking for evidence, they're likely to see it whatever they actually see.
