IN ORDER TO SAVE MONEY!!!!

I'm watching the primary debates for Ga. Governor on GPB (Georgia Pubpic Broadcastig) on TV now. Our former Governor Roy Banes won the debate IMO, but I was SHOCKED when I heard his criticism of the current admiistration here for reducing the # of school days by 18 days so they don't hav to raise taxes! Needless to say, the current Gov. Perdu is a REPUBLICAN!

What in the hell is wrong with these people? It's sure not because we have the HIGHEST education rating in the US! NO other State has done something this stupid!

TheRepub group of candidates is on now, and I can't believe that the candidate who's leading in the polls right now (John Oxidyne) is spewing the same BS the national party is. He JUST SAID "YOU NEVER AISE TAXES@! YOU ALWAYS LOWER TAXESAND STRENGTHEN THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY & REVENUES WILL GO UP! IT WAS PROVEN IN 1981 EHRN REAGAN DID IT!"

The Ga/. primary is next tuesday, and my guess is that Barnes will win the Dem nomination & Oxidyne will winn the Pub one. I can't wait to see Barnes demolish this Pub Pig!

probable effects on education as a whole.

9. It's the long term effect that bothers me. Theydid it ver sneakyily too!
First they changed the start day of school to mid August, then to the first week of August. Then they added a a FIVE DAY BREAK during the Thanksgiving holiday, TEN DAYS st cChristas/New Years, and a spring break of 10 days. I've had discussions with my so about how much time these kids are gotting off from school, and it ually doesn't go past the cost of the babysitter. I didn't realize & never counted the days they actually do attend school. All this happened SINCE the Pub took office.

To quote Mike Malloy, HAVE I MENTIONED HOW MUCH I HATE THESE PEOPLE?

10. Well it's austerity at the cost of the poor that bothers me, no matter how it happened.
Seems that the rich of both parties are in collusion to make sure that those that can afford it least, pay the entire price of every movement toward austerity. You can worry about long term if you choose, but the cost of a babysitter for so many additional days can be debilitating for many people, particularly single mothers, and especially single mothers in low paying service jobs.

15. I have two kids in GA public schools
We moved here from PA in 2007 - my kids are getting most of their education at home because they sure aren't being taught anything worthwhile in school though my Kindergartner was preached to by her evangelical teacher all last year. My wife and I are desperately trying to sell our house so we can move to a better district, but it will still be in GA - a state seemingly proud of its ignorance.

17. That's not good. Of course,
My students only got 168 days each year BEFORE last year's cuts. This year? 147 school days. Except that they cut 3 more days off at the very last minute on the last day of May, so 144 days.

Next year? They reinstated the 168 days earlier in the spring, and then, when they cut 3 days at the end of the year, they cut 8 more off of next year. So 160 days, with the option to cut more at the end of the year if necessary.

Of course, Obama, Duncan, Gates, and Broad would still like to evaluate us and pay us based on test scores, and those scores are still supposed to make "adequate progress," even with a school year of 144 days.

18. Expect that to happen all over the country
As long as the president is making states compete for federal money for education, while the local and state tax revenues decrease, school districts will have no choice but to reduce the number of days and programs.

23. They only have 11 months on the calendars they use in Georgia nowadays.
August was repealed.
As it turned out, too many hot days in that month caused people to bitch about the heat in August, so the legislature just repealed it.

25. Its definitely Barnes for us and either Deal or Ox for them.

Right now, Barnes is polling behind either in hypothetical election polls.

Barnes will have to turn it on and attack. Of course Barnes has his political weaknesses, too.

26. I was shocked that our last two public school districts had regular shortened days and "movie days."
In our local district, schools let out at 1 p.m. every Friday. Where we used to live, one day out of the five-day week was designated as "movie day" (academic classes replaced by movies).

These are public schools. I don't get it.
