John Edwards, the Movie

Aaron Sorkin to Shoot Film About Fallen ‘Politician’ John Edwards
Posted on Jul 16, 2010

Lights, camera, “Politician”: John Edwards will be the focus of Aaron Sorkin’s feature directing debut.

Aaron Sorkin made his name as a writer and producer of “The West Wing,” so he clearly knows a thing or two about political drama. Turns out he also really wants to direct movies, and he’s gearing up to make quite a debut with his big-screen adaptation of “The Politician: An Insider’s Account of John Edwards’s Pursuit of the Presidency and the Scandal That Brought Him Down.” Yes, that would be Andrew Young’s tell-all about working for former presidential candidate-turned-cad John Edwards. Sorkin seems pretty excited by this project; we can imagine, however, that Edwards doesn’t share his enthusiasm. —KA

Variety:

“This is a first-hand account of an extraordinary story filled with motivations, decisions and consequences that would have lit Shakespeare up,” Sorkin said. “There’s much more to Andrew’s book than what has been reported and I’m grateful that he’s trusting me with it.”

6. Does he really think there is enough interest in this story for a feature film?
Talk about beating a dead horse already.

9. I was an Edwards supporter. I still support what he stood for.
Edwards is a confused man, but his political analysis, at least the analysis he presented, has proved true. Andrew Young? An opportunist. If Andrew Young knew what was going on, why didn't he quit sooner? Why didn't he say something sooner? How long did Andrew Young continue to draw paychecks or payoffs from John Edwards?

Edwards has been outed. Why hasn't Young? He had to know what was going on. He had to have been assisting John Edwards in covering up his extra-marital relationship. In fact we know that Young did help Edwards cover that relationship up. Horrors.

10. What a stupid idea and a waste of time.
Who cares about Edwards anymore? He'll never hold elected office again. What good does it do to keep talking about him? Isn't there something more substantial for him to do a movie on instead of this sleazy tabloid shit?

12. Did the book explain why his Presidential platrom was so different than his Senate record?
It would be interesting to hear from someone with insight on that. I think he got a free pass on that too often.
