Quote of the Day: Still Ruled by the Rich
http://motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2010/07/quote-day-still-ruled-rich

From Rep. David Obey (D–Wisc.), soon to retire after 40 years in Congress, on his biggest regret:

I think our biggest failure collectively has been our failure to stop the ripoff of the middle class by the economic elite of this country, and this is not just something that happened because of the forces of the market.

And despite the legislative achievements of the Obama administration so far, this hasn't changed even modestly over the past few years. In the long term, this is by far the biggest threat to our economy.

Kevin Drum is a political blogger for Mother Jones.

1. Call them the 'Have-Mores,' the 'Plutonomy' or the 'Kleptocracy'...
Obey spoke the truth. They've been calling the shots for decades.

Doubt it? Look around: Endless wars that profit the few and bankrupt the country,
while at the same time tax cuts for the wealthy are sacrosanct.

3. I just have to kick this in
The middle class thought they were untouchable. That no one would ever DARE take their place away.

Those poor people? They deserved it. They're too lazy, etc.

The sad part is that even after getting the treatment from the top, they still won't get it that if we don't stick together against the moneyed interests, the people at the top will always win.
