We get a LOT of fundraising calls from various Dem groups because we're RELIABLE givers
Interestingly, they no longer seem shocked when we say we've changed our giving strategy and are now ony giving direct to specific candidates. They say they're hearing this more and more and wonder if it would still be okay to call us later. We say yes, and that we will again give to them when things change and Democrats start again acting like Democrats.

Today's call was from the DSCC. THEY got an earful when they said we need to "protect our 60 vote majority." That was laughable on its face. Sparkly reminded them that the 60 vote majority hasn't stopped the repubicans from running things and giving cover to the Vichy Dems. And that the DSCC was partly to blame for recruiting repubs-at-heart to run for the Senate.

Anyway, just an anecdote.

Carry on.

2. Same here
I say pretty much the same thing to anyone who calls from the Democratic party. I'm sure they ARE hearing that from a lot of people. I also write notes on their mailed survey forms saying the same thing.

3. I got a call from Emily's List yesterday and
told them not only is my giving way down due to the economy but I will only give directly to my congressman who needs it rather than all Dems. The Dem calls lately IMO have been a little too pushy. Contribute or else. Doesn't work with me.

4. I've seen that as well.Local Dem candidates know they will lose,but-
I get a lot of calls from other counties, state, and even other states that I have contributed to in the past.I explained that they need to get on board with what the population believes and communicate these things...and then come through, dammit.

10. So far, our state and local Dem party/club gets our support
Babs Mikulski has pissed us off from time to time, but never so bad as to withdraw our support for her.

We're happy with virtually everyone else in our line of representation in our state and local offices.

5. And how strongly did they support the Coakley campaign in MA?
Do *they* really want 60+ votes and the responsibility that goes with them?

6. They only support the Cool Kids.
I give you, as evidence, the DEMOCRAT running in Florida, Kendrick Meek.

Even here in River City, it is now permissible to discuss the Crist (lifelong repubican) candidacy in positive terms.

Do they want the responsibility of 60+ votes? I think the answer to that is clear. The balance in the Senate being on average 55/45 works to everyone's advantage as they all have cover.

Anyone ever notice how fast WAR funding gets passed?

7. My WTF moment
happened when I watched on Cspan as the House voted to fund the Contras. There have been no surprises since.

8. Which plays into the "Blame Congress" talking point.
Obama is forced to move rightward because of Congress.

But wait, we have the votes in Congress if we rein in Lieberman. (Oh, but we won't rein in Lieberman for some reason.)

Or what if we throw a lot of support behind Coakley. (Oh, well, she just ran a bad campaign... in MA.)

Well, we could put pressure on Baucus and the blue dogs, since Obama was just elected on a progressive campaign. (Oh, but Baucus is Obama's man in the Senate. I guess he's not going to change.)

Now we need money to protect our votes in Congress.

Talking point whiplash. It's easier if I turn off my brain and just start throwing my money wherever people tell me to.

9. I regret every dime I ever gave to any politician.
If I could have the money back I would, and I'd help actual people with it.

There is a word for people who take other peoples money then fuck them.
