Ya see, this is why America is dumbed down and voting Republican
This was the big story on the local news last night. I don't object to the content (except maybe for subtle sexism), but I question the news channel's priorities.

They spent 10 seconds talking about the oil spill (and I'm being generous), then went on to this story for three full minutes.

"Weather Wives"

3. Well, I mean for the ones who do vote Republican.
Out here in the deep red states, people lap up the propaganda and distorted news as though it were mother's milk.

2. Don't click. It's a story about the wives of TV weather forcasters.

Yes. You are right. There is no news on TV news. Mass media is about social control and de-evolution.

The corporate conservative media is our greatest enemy. It must be destroyed.

5. It wouldn't be so bad if it were part of a local TV special
It wouldn't be so bad if it were part of a local TV special that talked about weather forecasting in general, and briefly highlighted the local weather people and their families.

But on the "news"?? As THE featured story??

10. Yup. Since the latter 1970's the local news has covered itself.
They set up hundreds of cameras outside of the courthouses where celebrity trials are in process then point the cameras at each other and say "look at all of the press". They show video of late night parties for charities and say "look at all of the news anchors who attended". They participate in marathons and nature walks and set up cameras showing themselves. They show themselves eating at restaurants. They show themselves donating blood. They show themselves standing in puddles. They show themselves before they show any part of a story, then show themselves again. Live. 10 hours after a thing happens they are on the spot live for no good reason.

Local news is thought control.

13. I agree about the news' masturbation, but it's the overall focus, too
For example, they'll do a 5-minute segment about a 10-foot wide grass fire...but skip over anything of substance, because it's not sensational enough.

6. Dumbed Down News Departments...
In these days of downsizing and outsourcing, many News Departments are a shell of their former selves. Anyone with experience (translation: wants to earn a decent living) has been drummed out and it's cheap and titilation that now is "news" rather than real reporting. It's easy to manufacture a story than cover one...and means bigger ratings if its about sex or violence rather than some complex issue.

We've truly entered an age where breads and circuses always trump substance...

7. It's that whole male hero worship thing. Instead of the military wife,
they're glamorizing the the weather wife.

9. You could practically feel the hand-wringing atmosphere of the main piece
In reality, the wives were rather nonchalant about it, but you could tell they were coached into saying stuff like, "You never know when you'll get that phone call from the hospital." :eyes:

11. No disagreement there.
It's like you can't turn on the TV without getting bombarded with distorted crap. Don't even get me started about commercials...
