Mesa sweeps up hundreds of political signs - guess which party?
Edited on Fri Jul-16-10 12:44 AM by proud2BlibKansan
This is one of my pet peeves. And here where I live it almost always is the goddamn republicans putting their signs on public right of ways and in illegal spots all over town. If we can't trust them to follow simple rules about campaign signs, why should we vote for them?

Kudos to Mesa, AZ!

It's probably the last place Steve Court thought he would be this week.

But on a blistering morning the state lawmaker found himself in Mesa's west-side sign yard, digging through nearly 1,000 campaign signs swept off the street in only 24 hours by city crews.

He was trying to salvage what he could of a campaign investment that the Republican incumbent thinks is essential to his chances for re-election as a representative from District 18.

"It's about the only way you can get your name out there and be somewhat recognized," said Court, who will face opposition from a Democrat and a Libertarian in the fall general campaign. "It's very expensive to do mailings."

Court had to visit the sign yard because Mesa, swamped with complaints about illegally placed signs, got serious about enforcement.

1. In our area, you can almost count on any illegal sign representing a Republican candidate.
Occasionally, you'll see a transient flurry of illegal signs placed
by a Democrat to publicize an event (on the roads leading to
the event) but these are usually picked-up afterwards.

But the signs that just last and last and last? They're the
Republican signs. And calls to the Powers-that-Be produce no
action whatsoever.

3. He placed the signs illegally and he is going to get them BACK?!
So if he used a gun illegally, or was printing money illegally or grew some pot illegally or hired some workers illegally or was in possession of piranhas...
