Whatever they're saying, whatever banner or slogan or spit-spewing vehemence they're pitching on the day, all I can hear is "We believe we are members of privileged group whose dominance is threatened by any kind of reform."

I think a lot of Americans, or at least a lot of *groups* in which Americans participate, have forgotten how to argue honestly. When you're willing to try to spin the BP oil-pocalypse as being the fault of environmentalists who "won't lest us drill in the Arctic, where it's 'safe,'" you've pretty much admitted you're just hurling rhetoric.

It's too bad, because it prevents discussion that might actually get us somewhere.
