2. God. I wasn't even aware there was a multi-state compact. Glad my
state isn't part of it.

3. It's mostly for traveling nurses. If a nurse actually moves to a different state, he or she
has to obtain a license in that state. What they SHOULD do is keep a central database among all participating compact states and require reporting of any disciplinary actions against nurses regardless of home state--how hard can it be to set up such a database?

7. State Fail to Report Disciplined Caregivers to Federal Database
by Tracy Weber and Charles Ornstein (7-19-10 ProPublica)

"Hundreds of state agencies nationwide have never told the federal government about health care professionals they disciplined, undermining a central database meant to weed out dangerous caregivers."

8. There are bad folks in every profession
Unfortunately, they aren't caught until they do something bad.
I hold a compact license and have never done anything bad.
Thousands and thousands of nurses also hold them and never do anything bad.
There are always going to be a handful of bad apples out there.
That being said.
I think there should be ONE licensing entity for the entire country instead of state by state.
But that is a completely different subject.

12. Most Howe workers moved to other facilities by Joel Hood and Kristen Schorsch (7-26-10 Chicago
Tribune)

Despite accusations of neglect, improper care that led state to shutter center, many still care for developmentally disabled

How's it going with your neighborhood's caregivers DU, of course the majority are motivated ethical professionals-does anyone have a story about these criminals or is using Pro Publica's recipe to check out someone/something locally?
