Time to Boycott Geno's Philly Cheesesteaks in PA - grrrrr.
Not only did they hold a fundraiser today to help Jan Brewer raise money to fight the legal fees over SB1070 -
Dr Mike Newcomb from KPHX 1480 - our progressive talk radio - called to speak to the owner LIVE on the air....
Joey Vento told Newcomb to LEAVE THE COUNTRY, and then hung up on him! And that was even after Mike told him he liked their cheese steaks.

Mike just wanted to have an honest debate with him over 1070, but as a typical repug - all they are capable of doing is insulting and running away. They can't handle anyone with a different point of view.

Here's an article about the fundraiser-

What's the name of that other famous Cheese Steak place in Philly?

1. "What's the name of that other famous Cheese Steak place in Philly?"
Pat's.

Vento does this once a year or so, whenever traffic into his store is low. It brings all the race-haters out for a couple weeks. Then, Joey makes a big gesture, like giving a large amount of money to some charity.

It's almost something you can schedule on a calendar.

4. Does he always do something so controversial?
I mean raising money for Jan Brewer vs Obama makes quite a statement.

Thanks for the info -if I'm ever in Philly, I will eat at Pats :)

9. Geno's - they of the highly ironic "English Only" sign
Between the south Philly accent and all of the drunk Eagles/Flyers/Phillies/76rs fans, its a wonder anyone in that part of town is able to communicate with each other.

13. He's all wee-wee'd up about Latinos
Edited on Wed Jul-14-10 09:29 PM by Dogmudgeon
It's always the same kind of issue -- language, heritage, "illegals", etc.

Usually, he puts up "English Only" signs, along with a screed about his idea of patriotism, then calls the local TV stations and the Inquirer so they can send their reporters down.

The guy is a serious drama queen. He thinks he's a beloved iconoclast, but even some of my conservative friends and relatives blanch at his monkeyshines. Otherwise, Tony's a stand-up guy. My dad even knew him when/since they were young. This whole anti-Latino thing is his personal bug up his ass. But bigotry is like that.

It's a shame -- I was never a big steak sandwich eater, but I used to go there every so often, usually when I had a date and we went to South Street. The food there is very good and reasonably priced. I'm likewise not big on boycotts (unless they are planned and organized), but I just can't bring myself to go there any more.

For Philly steaks, it's either Pat's on South Street, or Billy Bob's at 40th and Spruce near UPenn. And if he ever gets his head out of his ass, Geno's (Tony's) on South Street.

17. Pat's started this..

With their "this is America, speak English" sign.

You'd be hard-pressed to frequent any business in South Philly. They don't like anyone north of South Street or west of the Surekill Crawlway.

If you want good eats in Philly, go to Baltimore and get crab cakes.

20. Ehh... When did Geno's ever have an original idea...

If Geno's did it, they stole it from Pat's. Lol

2. It's getting ugly out there. If they have a site and e-mail contact info,
I'll send one that I won't be having any of their cheesesteaks any more and won't be bringing by out of town guests, either. (I haven't been to PA since I was 4 years old, by the way!) I'd call, but my area code would bust me.

Thanks for the heads up, P!

5. As a lifetime resident I can tell you that only tourists go to Geno's and Pat's.
Because we know their steaks suck. Jim's on South Street is the best in town.

Vento is a mixed bag, he's a complete asshole on the immigration thing but he does great charity work in other respects.

12. Actually what I heard on Mike Newcomb today
was that the three stooges were out there when they should have been in Az working their job not rallying for money. The taxpayers pay their salaries to work not run across state lines to shore up their beliefs.

23. C'mon now.
Vento is a dick but Merlino is a thief and murderer. Though one might call Vento a thief for what he charges for his inferior product.

14. I seldom listen to Newcomb but today I did
because Mike really had a great show. I was saying when he announced he was going to try and talk to this nitwit shock joke that he was not going to get anywhere, but at least gave him credit for trying. When the guy said get out my country, and I am no fan of Newcomb's I got angry because Newcomb was asking a legit question and this shock joke was just playing to the crowd. I sure would love to talk to Dumb (his name is close to that) and if he would have the guts to stay on and finish a conversation with me, I would like to ask did you serve in the U.S. Military? I served in both the Air Force and the Navy. Did you serve in wartime, I served during Vietnam and had orders to go but got injured so my shipment was cancelled and they quit sending troops there before I got well. I would ask if he lost a good portion of his earning ability because of his service as I did. Then when he answered no to all as I suspect he would, I would say, "NO YOU get the hell out of MY COUNTRY COWARD!!!!!
