McCain is going to beat the teabagger fav Hayworth.. unfortunately.
The new Rocky Mountain Poll of Arizona shows Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) continuing to demolish his challenger in the Republican primary, former Rep. J.D. Hayworth. The numbers: McCain 64%, Hayworth 19%, and conservative activist Jim Deakin 5%. The survey of registered voters has a ±5.4% margin of error. The previous Rocky Mountain numbers from April had McCain ahead by 54%-28%, with Deakin not included, and it's only gotten worse for Hayworth since then.

I was hoping Hayworth would pull off the upset because it could have given a Dem challenger a shot at winning since Hayworth is such a lunatic. However, Hayworth did force McCain to slide hard right which could help the Dem challenger but I doubt that will be near enough to defeat the old senile warmonger.

2. I don't even know who the Dem challenger is, BUT
McCain zigged and zagged and looked some kind of pathetically contorting India Rubber man trying to look
both reasonable and batshit crazy trying to please the whole right of center crowd at the expense of his
credibility. All he did was look pitiful to everyone except (maybe not even) Cindy.

Not that Arizona voters are known for their brilliant choices, but they did elect Janet Napolitano, so it's
not completely impossible a Democrat could take that seat. It's simple--get someone in there who looks confident
and coherent, and they can make McCain look very bad. If we get someone who only there to tread water because
we have abandoned the 50 State strategy, then we might as well concede the seat to McCain now and save our money.

5. I don't think there is a Republican who is too crazy for Arizona
and if Hayworth pulls this one off, it's going to be Senator Hayworth, Arizonans having very short memories and forgetting he was thrown out of the House for being a corrupt SOB in Abramoff's pocket. They'd prefer him to a Democrat, somebody they think is hiding horns under his hair and has his tail stuffed up under his suit coat.

Hell, I think Sharron Angle would win in Arizona.

However, I'm glad there is enough sentimental attachment to Gramps McCain to keep Hayworth out. I think he'll be back, though, and he'll end up getting elected.

6. well the problem with that is
you can't count on Arizona Democrats backing Glassman or the others running for that position. I see many who say they won't support Glassman and the other 2 Democrats are not as likely to be able to beat Hayworth or McCain. That means if Hayworth wins you can't bet the Democratic Nominee is going to be strong enough to beat Hayworth and so Hayworth would take McCain's place in the Senate. As bad as McCain is, Hayworth would be a much larger demon. If we could get together enough to get our candidate in office I would say yeah bring on Hayworth, but honestly it would be a tough job and since we really have a bad Democratic Party leadership here, I would rather see McCain win the Primary and hope we can come together to beat him, although that is not a real strong change against either GOP candidate. Sorry but that is the reality of the split in our Democratic Party.

10. Glassman is a good candidate but
he is facing 2 primary challengers with far less connections and ability, but unfortunately we have too many that are mad at Glassman because he wasn't there when the Dream Act Students were arrested and just because of that some have said they will not vote for Glassman regardless. Why he wasn't there I don't know but maybe someone here does. He was an aide for our popular progressive U.S. Representative here (I don't know how to spell his name and the grammar police will likely hang me upside down for not getting it right) and has the connections that with the support of the Democrats and the party here could possibly beat Hayworth. The big sticking point is the Democratic Leadership is going to put the money into Goddard's campaign (Brewer now has a 22 point lead) and do little or no funding of other candidates. The Democratic Party here really isn't trying too hard to beat the Republican Nominee for the Senate.

14. Unfortunately I agree because
I have seen a growing progressive party lose it's mojo and we have progressives who won't speak to other progressives, we have Democratic Party officials who will call ask you to come work at the HQ and when you get there it might be locked or the one in charge gone and nobody knows what to tell you where you can help. When I first got here just over 3 years ago I saw a strong community with a strong progressive radio station that the Drobnys killed and divided people. Now we have a lackluster station, people not talking due to the that situation, others who are mad at anyone who says they support Obama and refuses to talk to anyone who says one good thing about Obama. A former Democrat that many respected gets on the station, tells people not to vote for a Democrat or a Republican but vote for the party he now has joined, the Green Party, that doesn't have a snowball's chance. It is so bad that I just don't see any Democrat no matter how good as having much of a chance. I do understand the progressive community in Tucson is stronger but one of their better known members has come out bashing Glassman so with that, no the Democrats here in Arizona are doing a good job of helping the Republicans.

17. Know what DC Bob - Get your ass out to AZ on primary day in August - go to one of the
voting areas and fight off the police/teabaggers to give a legal Hispanic the "right to vote". That is what it is going to take to see a Democrat win an election.
