I would be yelled at for being Anti-American and not supporting our troops.

But I guess if Dick Lugar and Newt Gingrich was to now claim the Afghanistan war isn't going to end well, it's ok and the media should embrace them as heros for having such foresight into this horrible mess in Afghanistan.

What I see is the GOP goal to blame all these wars on Obama and not Bush. Back 40 years ago the same thing happened with Vietnam. Let's face it - LBJ started Vietnam but it seems that Nixon gets the most blame as to the failure of that war.

3. I wouldn't have yelled at you.
As a person who likes to look to the past and other places to see how certain policies succeed or fail, the phrase "graveyard of empires" would have caught my attention.

5. I said we'd easly "win"
I had no doubt that we would easily "win" both wars. The military force of the US is difficult to "resist". It will move right through you. The problem, as I repeatedly stated was "then what"? These weren't wars of "liberation". They were far more akin to our ventures into Mexico in the 1800's and early 1900's.

You can move "through" populations quite easily. It's hanging around that is tough.

6. Nixon gets blamed for the massive escalation
he did. More troops died in Vietnam under Nixon than LBJ. So it is not like he doesn't deserve the blame he gets. If the same thing happens under Obama why shouldn't he get blamed. Although one difference Nixon ran on a secret plan to end Vietnam while Obama ran on finishing the job in Afghanistan. Nixon didn't do what he promised, Obama did....

7. Right wing noise machine
But you bring up an important point- I've often said here on DU that we should never have gone to Afghanistan, and roundly been flamed for it. Even up until recently.

Funny how even we Dems take our cues from our enemies about what to think and believe, huh?

8. Obama's campaign rhetoric on Afghanistan
and his escalation of our occupation give him ownership of the Afghanistan occupation.
