Tea Party billboard in Mason City raises concern
Edited on Wed Jul-14-10 09:07 AM by CatWoman

A new billboard in downtown Mason City features a photo of President Obama, flanked by pictures of German dictator Adolph Hitler and Communist leader Vladimir Lenin.

The billboard features phrases like “Live Free or Die” and “Radical leaders prey on the fearful and naive.”

It’s the same spot where a billboard last fall featured the phrase “Obama-Nation, Live Free or Die” with the Communist symbol of a hammer and sickle. The billboards were paid for by the North Iowa Tea Party.

John White, state coordinator of the Iowa Tea Party movement, says the new billboard crosses a dangerous line. He says it’s going somewhere the Tea Party doesn’t need to go.

White says this type of mudslinging is something they’d like to see stopped in their policies and campaign process. The sign features the words “Democratic Socialism” over Obama’s picture, over Hitler’s photo is “National Socialism” and over Lenin’s head is “Marxist Socialism.” The words “Change” are also included on each photo. White says hand-held signs like the billboard have been discouraged from Tea Party functions.

2. The Tea Party is filled with hate.
It's as simple as that. Also, I don't think most of them even know what Socialism is.

12. it's not really that simple and nobody knows what socialism is
because socialism has dozens of meanings. Also, it is not a bad thing to hate something that is evil, like, for example, Dracula. Hating Dracula is a good thing, because he is evil and his evil spreads if not vigorously fought.

23. well the Dracula story has been turned around
now we have been raised on many years of "good" vampires, like Angel (from Buffy the Vampire slayer) and Morbius (the living vampire from Marvel comics), Alisa (from Christopher Pike's The Last Vampire), the vampire from Moonlight, and some of the teenage vampires from the current movies and books, and even, to a degree, from Anne Rice's "Interview with a vampire" series. No longer are they pure evil, like in Bram Stoker's day. Instead, they are more like ordinary people, only really powerful.

3. This is incendiary
It has the ability to push a fragile nutjob person over the edge to do something dangerous.

In short, I consider this an abuse of free speech.

I might note that when I lived there, both Cerro Gordo and Floyd counties went for Gore in 2000 (they also went for Nussle, so go figure). Mason City is the county seat of Cerro Gordo county.

Obama is not liberal enough, but on the radical right, he's a 'socialist'. Oh the irony... :dilemma:

20. some of the same held true during the Bush administration
to the radical right, Bush was not conservative enough, but on the radical left, he was a 'fascist'.

http://archive.democrats.com/view.cfm?id=3524

One huge difference, of course, is that Bush policies, like the tax cuts and the Iraq war, have done and are still doing, tremendous harm to our nation and our world.

Of course, those on the right are predicting dire consequences for the stimulus bill and also for the health care bill and for cap and trade.

It has some merit where the theme Obama is socialist or communist is Alice in Wonderland.

10. IS there ANYTHING about the TeaBaggers that is sane or rational?
So, if I read the OP correctly, the STATE COORDINATOR of the Iowa TeaBaggers offers that the billboard paid for by the North Iowa TeaBaggers is crossing a dangerous line. One would think that the state coordinator might have some say in the purchasing of billboard space.

Lastly, the Tea Baggers are not only racists, they are idiot racists. Their messages are contradictory, their spelling is atrocious and their main motivation is as clear as day - they are just plain old racist douchebags. Their pathetic attempt to wrap their racism in the flag and patriotism is a laughable failure to any rational, sane person.

24. Insanity...
The level of insanity behind these rightist extremists is perplexing. I bet that if the 'tea party' was a leftist movement that resorted to inciting blind hatred they would have been quickly dismantled by the republicans under the banner of patriotism and national security. These people don’t stand for freedom or liberty but rather injustice and inequality. They are delighted to feed off the scattered crumbs left over by their corporate overlords who are the true model Americans to these ignorant rats.

25. This is the insanity we're up against- which is why I will continue to support the President...
As far as I'm concerned OUR choices are as follows:

A Democratic leadership which disappoints us more often than we'd like,

-OR-

Dangerous idiots who believe that anyone who isn't a Republican is a Socialist/Commie/Nazi/Muslim/Whatever, especially Obama.

As the Rolling Stones put it: "You can't always get what you want." But, we can make some fundamental choices.

32. well yes, it is crazies who think a lot like that who are the only other political force capable of
actually taking power - if the forces backing President Obama were to falter.

If the Green Party was the leading opposition, I would seriously consider jumping ship. But that is not the real world.

Projecting again, I see.

It's like conservatives are incapable of ANY introspection and are constantly engaged in the transference of their own flaws onto some perceived "enemy". They are fucking psychotics and need heavy medication and therapy.

Edited on Wed Jul-14-10 10:15 AM by booley
Teabaggers think that Obama is going to take their guns away any day now to create a communist/Fascist dictatorship.

They seem to over all have a not favorable opinion of others who look or think differently then they do.

They bought the Death Panel meme regardless of how many times it got proven wrong.

They get their news from Fox despite that Fox has shown it lies to promote it's agenda.

And how many of Glen's viewers have bought into Goldline which is a huge scam?

Even the violence here is projection as more then once I have heard cons complain about how "violent" Liberals are, how Liberals promote violence against anyone who disagrees with them.

This is hardly the only case of projection that cons in general have displayed. It's a long standing trend.

When they look in the mirror in the morning, do they even realize that's their reflection staring back at them?

34. apparently the billboard has now been removed
but not before the country has seen the nutjobs that represent and portray the Tea party. Yahoo has shown the pics and Yahoo now talks about the party request to remove the sign. It only proves the group is in disarray as some support and some don't support the extremism that is a clear lable attached to the group.
