SS, Medicare, Medicaid long term costs and the Deficit will destroy us in less than 50 years.

Get out while you can.

As for me, I am glad to live in New England. It is not perfect by any means but a pretty decent area of the United States where not a lot of religious or economic RW wackos live.

It's not bad in my neck of Wisconsin. I can take some comfort in knowing that even with the little that I have I am much, much better off than billions of other people in this world. I try and concentrate and be grateful for what I have rather than lament what I lack.

42. Thanks to NAFTA working in Canada is astonishingly easy
I am working in Calgary where there are 100,000 of us or slightly less than 10% of the population, it is even higher in Vancouver.

It is not difficult for Americans to find work abroad, we make it obnoxiously difficult for foreigners to work in the US, but other countries are much more accommodating to skilled labor.

So, perhaps soon, articles in the Toronto news about Americans going through backyards, stealing bicycles and lawnmowers, bringing drugs _into_ Canada, and conservatives pointing out that "it's not sterotyping to ask for their ID and see if they don't end every third sentence with ", eh?".

them in many ways -- many distractions -- many lies -- great wealth poured

into turning around New Deal -- took them 60 years or more --

part of it had to be co-opting the Dem party -- they not only targeted GOP moderates

and liberals, they targeted liberal and progressive Dems, replacing them with people

more "under the influence" of their money.

Common Cause has a petition on this -- I've posted it in General -- Fair Elections Act!

Getting corporate money out of our elections -- our of our party politics --

our of the hands of our elected officials and candidates.

PLUS a lot of things that kept the country informed were changed -- a few I'm aware of ....

big change in the news reporting with TV . . . and finally total corporate take over of

"free press."

Also few understand Social Security any more -- politicans lie to the public -- Wall St.

Journal had a huge campaign to destroy confidence in it calling it a "Ponzi Scheme" --

none of this is true -- Social Security is a huge success running huge surplusses every year!

Borrowed for wars and tax cuts for rich --

Social Security used to visit offices and talk with employees explaining Social Security --

quite regularly -- so everyone knew about it and how it worked -- was never intended to run

a surplus -- "pay as you go" --

Also the Democratic Party used to have representatives in neightborhoods to keep people

informed -- if something was going to go down like an attack on social programs, public

immediately knew -- all of that was taken away.

And lots of other negative things --

27. I know what you mean . . .
I've discussed this in a post below this one --

some of my family have left -- but isn't always possible to make the move --

what of our kids -- do we send them off -- do we go off alone?

But, it also reminds me that in an ironic way many of us would be going back to places

where our families originated --

and certainly we are leaving this continent far from the condition we found it in --

and long ago taken from the Native Americans who occupied it and its outer islands.

They know something about loss of life and home, children and families, as well -- !!

26. Many of us have been thinking of doing that for a long time --
What country isn't a victim of US foreign policy --

And many need resources to make a move like that --

Plus family considerations --

Been thinking of this a lot, recently -- the Irish had to send their kids away

- many came to America --

Germans also came here -- lots of them -- many of them had resources because they

had land to sell --

Shall we start sending our kids away? 70 jobs for every college grad -- ?

Tough to think about -- !!

Some in my family have already made the move -- not to Candada tho -- Ireland.

However, I moved to Korea in 2004 and am a permanent resident here now since I am married to a Korean. One thing that I have to admit is the healthcare here in Korea is much better then in the US. Though the current president of Korea (who is about as bad as Bush) is trying to change the system here to the one the US has now (screw the poor). I am hopeful that people won't allow this to happen as they basically have universal health care here and I want it to stay that way.

sure the beer is better, society is more liberal, but they're in financial trouble too. Plus, you get paid way less and your lifestyle would go down. What's the old adage "When the US coughs, the UK gets the flu" or something like that?
You still pay taxes, you still get up and go to work every morning, you still have to deal with idiots...and it's really hard to emigrate. We lived there for 7 years and I find in the end that I prefer it here. I just wish we had pubs.

Against my will as it were, as the result of a nasty breakup.

For a long time I would've agreed with your thoughts, but now I think they're just as fucked as we are, if not more (due to Muslim immigration, wayyyyy less space, the impossibility of food self-sufficiency, and the fact that the people there are going to have a harder time getting used to the New Reality, used as they are to long paid vacations, free healthcare, functioning public transport, and massive government entitlement programs in general, which they will soon have to start cutting sharply).

However, the people there are less materialistic and insane and idiotic, on the whole.

Canada I cannot speak to, but I would venture to guess that they will be the best off among the three countries mentioned here, unless they are under a sheet of ice in the winter.
